I forget if it was hellbites or me who said it first, since lately we've been creeping each other out by saying the same shit at the same time. But whoever said it first

But those girls who like BT only like it because of Atsushi... and of course they'd prefer that Imai wasn't there because he's not that handsome... haha XD
For the record, I love Buck-Tick for the music and Atsushi's voice. Him being pretty is just a bonus. XDDD And I love Imai because he's a genius.
So, since I don't fall into that category of Buck-Tick "fan", I probably didn't even have to say anything, but I'm horrible at resisting discussing them, haha~
But, I still have some hope that since Dead End was er, "raised" in the era that visual was still considered "good", maybe they'll be good too, and popularize it again, and help to level out the shitty modern vk?
Well, if they can manage to be visual in a cool way (as opposed to the shitty modern VK) then I'd feel a lot better about it, but... yeah. My hopes are not too high. :|
Well, even regardless of what it sounds like, though, I still think it's clear who Dead End is targeting with their marketing. For me personally, the new music would have to be the most amazingly shockingly fantastic thing ever to make up for me as a HR/HM fan and Dead End listener of 10 years feeling spited by their marketing.
And it's not that I hate all visual, even, since there are (old) visual bands I like. I just don't want my HR/HM bands going visual, and other HR/HM fans' reactions would probably be even more negative than mine since a lot of them want nothing to do with visual at all, no exceptions.
Dead End is just cashing in on the whole old veekay band reunion bandwagon from how well D'erlanger and X Japan did. I wonder how many of their long time, non-veekaytard followers are actually planning to buy this new release. With the "A-side" song being called "Princess", it looks like a swift kick to the nuts to their HR/HM fanbase. If it was the B-side, it might be different but still an insult. I think the whole reunion screams "sellout". Then again, this coming from a veekay fan that's not as dumb as a box of nails.
Yeah, all of this exactly. One doesn't need to hear a single note of the song to see what this looks like from a marketing standpoint-- song titles are not random occurences, especially not when they're making it out to be the main song off the album right after they reunited, so it's hard to imagine this as anything other than a very purposeful "rebranding". Especially if there's any truth to those rumors I keep reading about Morrie attending all (or at least a lot of) the veekay concerts in NYC.
It's just so disappointing they'd jump on the veekay reunion bandwagon when so many other classic HR/HM bands have reunited in the past several years as HR/HM bands. Weird choice.
I find it amusing that some people don't realize that this is an obvious rebranding or doing the "don't judge until it's released" comments. Certain song titles just give off certain vibes, like any song called "Heaven" is most likely a ballad. Princess just comes off as a girly/wimpy song. If Dead End is trying to expand by going "visual" to gain Western fans, it's going to hit them in the face
( ... )
Yeah, I know! On my metalbanzai post especially, I got all those "don't judge until it's released" comments and got the distinct impression that we're among the few who are looking at this from a marketing/branding perspective. Princess just makes me think of stuff like Versailles (as someone commented there) and Malice Mizer, which I'm sure is the idea. It seems squarely targeted at people who are into gothic lolita and bands that wear black tutus and tiny hats.
We could get "lucky" and end up with all these classic HR/HM acts going veekay for an album or something.Man, now that's a frightening prospect! I'm confident we at least won't see this with Loudness and Anthem, though. For example, Eizo Sakamoto (who isn't the leader of Anthem, but nonetheless) has his "Eizo Japan" project which he markets to overseas fans-- it's anime songs, basically-- but he keeps his career with Anthem separate from that. I don't mind this at all because I can still enjoy Anthem and Eizo's various non-anime bands just the same as before, and then

in my opinion, they follow the old band comeback hypes, and maybe I guess maybe they think like X JAPAN who failed to do everything in their comeback, especially Yoshiki dumbness still get people attention,so why can't them?who knows maybe they have confidence to set things right which X JAPAN can't do.And about Princess,I don't care about the title, and I'll judge it after I hear it,beside there lots of metal bands who have cool, rock, hard title in their songs, but the songs kinda sissy.Btw,I am new to Dead End and X JAPAN,so as you can see,I don't take any sides.
Well, Dead End does seem to be following the old visual band comeback hype, though with Dead End it's quite strange since Dead End and X Japan are completely different animals.
X Japan was visual from the start and has had a relatively high degree of visibility among overseas "Jrock" fans ever since there have been overseas "Jrock" fans.
Dead End was a HR/HM band, known overseas only by fans of bands like Loudness/Anthem/etc. and by fans of obscure metal in general, and was completely unknown among "Jrock"/visual kei fans until about two minutes ago.
And naming something "Princess" is a great way to appeal to the overseas visual kei fans and piss off the HR/HM fans.
Ah, I did that a while ago. I can explain why, but you really want me to explain it right here in this public entry? I ask because it would involve me mentioning stuff that was in locked entries in your LJ.
