I feel like it's so dangerous to get pregnant these days. I won't have access, should something happen, to the most sophisticated procedures available to me. Pregnant women aren't getting cutting edge care. Their getting outdated, prehistoric care.
Yeah. That makes a lot of sense. It's okay to dismember a fetus in the womb and then extract it, but not suck its brain out.
HUH?
This is clearly a method to start chipping away at the abortion issue altogether. For surely, someone will eventually point out the absurdity of the logic above, and then the whole issue will be up for grabs again.
Exactly! Though my concern is more along the line of--if they point out the absurdity, will the powers that be find a way to go ahead and nix the whole thing?
I think it will depend a good deal on who which party may be dominating the political scene at the time.
The whole idea of partial-birth abortions makes me sick. There should never be any reason whatsoever for that procedure to be performed. You'd have to be one sadistic fucker to even tolerate having to do such a thing, let alone have it done to yourself.
If I believed in him, I would definitely have to say this is the devil's doing.
I'm having trouble figuring out where you're coming from.
Are you saying that women who will lose their lives because they are pregnant--who developed a complication while pregnant--should not be allowed to have an IDX procedure?
Are you saying that women who have dead babies in their wombs should not have an IDX and instead have the more invasive C-section or carry their dead children to term?
I'm trying to figure out if you agree with our new law.
I'm merely saying it shouldn't be an alternative to the procedure that would be done under any normal circumstances. Let's say a woman gets pregnant, decides somewhere close to term that she doesn't want the baby or to go through labor and give it up for adoption, so she opts for the IDX procedure. I don't agree with that. That's what I meant by the whole "sadistic fucker" thing.
Now, if medical complications arise and the only way to save the pregnant woman's life is the IDX procedure, or if the fetus dies in the womb, that's a different matter. It just .. kind of makes me sad to think about it. I would hate to think that was the only option in someone's case.
Sorry I didn't make myself clear in my initial reply. :|
Regarding "kind of makes me sad to think about it. I would hate to think that was the only option in someone's case:" It's sometimes the best and healthiest option for some women. Now it has been taken away.
Such bullshit. I was wondering why they were talking about IDX on NPR today. I refuse to call it "partial birth abortion" since it's not a medical term. It's a emotionally charged term to get people all "OMGWTFBBQ". Fucking asshats.
I KNOW I KNOW! THey're all like, "Let's stop women from killing their babies!" And we're all like, "It's not about killing the babies, DUMBASS, it's about my health or my ALREADY dead baby!"
I was reading about this yesterday (thank the GODS for wonkette) and as I understand the procedure that was axed by SCOTUS, it's exactly what you say -- removing an already dead baby from a woman's body. The thing is, the health risks for leaving the baby corpse inside the body expotentially increases the risks for the woman going septic, developing horrible complications, and very likely DYING. And yet these (all male) fuckwits on SCOTUS are happily ignoring these rather blatantly obvious health risks because.. dearie me... they're afraid of being seen as "Pro-Abortion." Whatever the hell that means.
And even though I'm a gay man who doesn't have any vested interest in the abortion debate, I have too many het female friends to be completely noncommittal. So yea, I absolutely second and third your GAH!
Thanks for supporting those of us with uteruses. You rock.
By the way, I went to the gayest bar in Orlando this weekend. Good lord it was something else. There were packages flying all around me and I drank the most fabulous martinis of my life! What a fun experience!

I'm going to be the bluest voter in the Universe next time.
Of course, now that I'm voting in the state of Florida, will it count?
