i imagine that at TW some people over the years have dabbled with creating technology they shouldn't just because they could. the whole 'research for research sake' mentality that gave us things like nuclear bombs.

I can imagine there is some weird stuff in the archives and dangerous too - just look what happened at Canary Wharf with the whole: if it's alien, it's ours for the good of the empire!

while i'm all for research science for the sake of science; i think since most such research is funded by governments, those novel discoveries tend to end up being used for some unsavory purposes.

TW already has a certain level of amoral attitude (no one governs them) which can lead to a certain amount of morally ambiguous behavior.
