I have to say, I recommend against the psycho-streaming. Not only are there the obvious drawbacks of burnout (there's a reason they call it psycho-stream!) and no money, but I found I learned more on co-op terms than in school half the time, and you also totally lose track of everyone you know and you never know anyone in your classes any more. This becomes much more important in the upper-year classes.
Starting a company isn't a bad idea; I know several people (aside from NITI, even) who have done it. Unless it's very part-time consulting or something, it does suck up a lot of your time, and your grades will likely suffer. I'd estimate that one of my friends who did this lost 10-20% off his average, just because while he was smart, he no longer had the time to do his assignments and studying right (and he wasn't enough of a genius to get by without studying). But it meant his co-op terms were pretty darned meaningful to him - he built up his company! And he's still working there, so I guess it worked out OK.
I'm not sure if my grades could weather a 20% drop, I'd be fairly close to academic probation at that point. None the less, I haven't really been happy with my jobs so far, so I'm going to see what I can make of it :-)
