I went to a funeral yesterday for my neighbor who used to live across the street from me. The worst part was seeing her two kids- her son who is in 9th grade and her daughter who is in 8th. She died from colon cancer and though she was sick for 2 years, when I found out she died it still came as a shock. At the funeral, everyone got into a line

is berkeley in your top choices? i sincerely wish you serenity during the waiting period, and i have faith that schools will see how exceptional you are

thank you! you make me feel infinetly better and i sure do miss and love you!! My 2 top choices are either NYU film school or USC film school. If i dont get into the film schools than im not sure which are my top choices, but berkeley is definetly up there. do you like it? and do you know anyone who had to fill out a supplemental application because they had a "special talent?" I called Berekely and asked them what my "special talent" is. apparently its acting (i happened to mention under jobs that i have been in some commercials). i dont know if this is good or bad. i find the whole thing commical though; that they picked out acting over all the other stuff i do.

i would guess that if they said that you have a 'special talent,' they are considering you for a specific department or a scholarship. i wouldn't worry at all. I do like it here, but it's definitely the wrong place to be for film production; i'm in film classes and last semester i had the only professor who does something close to film production.. and let me tell you... his teaching style leaves a lot to be desired and makes you somewhat suicidal haha. i would have to discourage you from berkeley if you're into film or art production, and point you toward UCLA for sure ((if NYU and USC somehoww fall through)). did you have to make films for those applications?

for usc no- but my application was seriously like 40 pages long because i had to do a bunch of creative writing. for nyu i had a choice of what i could submit in terms of art so i submitted 10 of my AP studio art pieces. well thanks for telling me- i am interested in film production so this is sad news for me :( im still going to do the supplemental (hopefully get it done!) and see where i get in and weigh my options. yikes. i cant wait!

believe me, i know exactly how you feel. the father of two of my best friends died in october of an incredibly sudden heart attack. his sons were 16, 18, and 20-something. I'm extremely close with the younger two. it's horrible to watch kids bury their parents. practically the entire temple turned out for the funeral, and even though i'd never really known the dad, i still cried. there isn't much to say and its always awkward, but being jews, we always eat together after something like this and try to remember the life. its never easy, and im really sorry.
