Well, of course there were Jews in Rome by that time - Palestine being under Roman rule and all - and probably some of them were reasonably successful, but I haven't heard much tell of Jewish political prominence in Rome around then, not that I'm an expert. Offhand, it seems like any religiously observant Jew probably would've encountered difficulties pretty quickly in a political career in Rome, being barred from acknowledging emperors as gods and all...
