Personally, I'm not even sure which of those boxes to check off on the poll. Mostly because I like the old app a lot better. For me, IMO, it was a better way to sort people. I could get a definite vibe from that app better than I can this one.
I agree. I also found the old application was just more fun to read.
But I'll admit I'm distressed to see the "Create an HP character for yourself" so unpopular. That's my third most important question on this app (best and worst qualities being the only two above it).
I am getting rather tired of getting to the end of the app just to find that the applicant is totally tactless or that they don't think they belong in the house that I am about to sort them in.
I enjoy reading this application a lot more than the old one.
However, I think that this new application doesn't give you a good enough idea on where someone should be. Which is the most important thing in this process.
I really don't like the 'name 3 reasons you'd like to be sorted into each house' question as not everybody wants to be sorted into each house. And most people end up saying things like, 'Gryffindors are brave and I'd like to be brave' or 'Hufflepuffs are just nice. I'd like to be in a nice community.'
The O.W.L. results question could be better if it a little elaboration was required, not just letters. That and a list of classes would be nice.
Inventing a spell/potion is creative, yes, but not something the applicant can usually think of right off the bat, and doesn't really give us an idea of who they are, but what they can think of at the moment.
The key traits question doesn't do much for me either. It usually produces the same answers, with the typical stereotypes of each house. Actually, any question that could leave us with stereotypes should probably be avoided. =/
I agree with getting rid of the "three reasons" question. It's kind of vague. Like, three reasons you'd want to be in each house, or three reasons you feel you belong in each house? I've seen people answer it both ways, and though the second one can sometimes be helpful, the first one is kind of useless.
Even though I enjoy the responses to the new app more than the old, I have noticed that the responses are more tailored to the house that the applicant wants to be in. Particularly with the "name three reasons..." question, and it has been "pushes" for all 4 houses.
The biggest advantage that this new app has over the old is that there has been, at least in my opinion, far less too short apps, or maybe because I have found it easier to get a vibe off the newer app.
