It's very intriguing to see what's going on inside the Slytherin common room!

Thanks :) I had fun trying to write a glimpse of something we didn't see in the books while still trying to keep to the character of 'ambitious' Slytherins.

I love the feel of this, like a golden era movie. It could be a missing scene from Gone with the Wind, discussing bloodlines and temperments while trying to decide how to populate the next generation. I do believe they discussed such things even if the canon stayed far away from it.

I love this version of Lucius. He's more playful than the canon one, but perhaps it's before he had to grow up and turn into the canon Lucius.

All in all, quite fun!

Thank you for such a lovely comparison! I have to admit I've never seen Gone With The Wind (to my detriment, I expect) but I did try to get across a feel of a culture that was slightly outdated and not something we'd immediately associate with the 1960's/70's when this is set. I certainly see Lucius maturing as he grows, looking at how Draco acts in the books, but perhaps acting with less malice as I always thought the Slytherin/other houses divide came after Voldemort's first rise to power. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

Young Lucius is wonderfully self-centered. I like his easy banter with Dahlia. They seem to be more like siblings than a potential match.

This is a delightful glimpse at how politics work within Slytherin.

:) Thank you! That's pretty much how I see the relationship between the two actually.

You have Narcissa as following Walburga's teachings and a fairly playful yet above it all Lucius. I kind of wish he had married someone like Dahlia.

I figured Draco had to get his house predjudices from somewhere and out of the Blacks and the Malfoys I just can't see politically-motivated Lucius throwing away so many potential connections for something like being sorted into a different house. After our glimpse of Walburga in canon, I can see her having an effect on her nieces, even if it isn't a positive one.

Your summary really drew me in! And I am such a sucker for close friendships that I was just hooked reading Lucius and Dahlia's conversation.

Lucius was utterly IC, just spot on! He completely seems like the sort of person to barely remember anyone's name or House, etc and be Machiavellian enough to have at least some enlightened self-interest at that age. I can see why Dahlia and he were friends enough to gossip and honestly ask questions about opinions.

I also like the look at a younger Narcissa off-screen: answering the question, "Why did they get married?"

I love fics that fill in the blanks :)

Thank you for sharing! ♥

:D Thank you! I really enjoyed writing the banter between the two of them and how they sort of balance each other out. I'm glad you liked Lucius, I could see him maturing as he got older and I tried to write him how I imagined Draco might have been if he hadn't been the top of the political heap and without the inter-house malice to guide him. I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
