((open to anyone wandering by the classroom))

Anya hurried up the stairs and past the Great Hall. She was supposed to meet Emily in classroom seven so they could get it ready for the first meeting of the Dead Girls Club, but she had lost track of time. Books and wand in hand, she walked quickly into the classroom.

Emily had been waiting with a pile of books of her own, spread across two benches and a chair, and she was practicing her wand movements when Anya came into the room. "Swish and flick," she muttered to herself. "Swish and... Oh, there you are." She smiled at Anya.

Emily let out a giggle. "If you say so. All right." She straightened up and grasped her wand with great vigour. "Let's see here..." She read the incantation and pointed at a curtain. "Curalium Fucus!" SPLAT. The colour came shooting out of the tip of the wand, leaving a big red stain on the curtain. If Emily had not been a proper English lady, she would have cursed loudly. Now she was, so she merely said: "Oh... fiddlesticks!"

She turned to the books again to find how one made sure the dye was more evenly applied, and at the same time she picked out a thin volume called Closed Doors: A Guide to Keep A Secret A Secret and Mysteries Mysterious and held it up so that Anya could see it. "Perhaps this could help us?" She flipped through the pages. "It says that we need something to stand guard for us. That is, something that the girls can say the password to. A painting, or a statue."

Anya smothered her own laughter at the splotch on the curtain, glad that no one else was here to witness their fumbling attempts at magic. "I kind of like it! It's very... abstract. There was a man several years ago who made lots of money for paintings that were basically paint dripped on a canvas. We can just call it art!"

She came over to peek over Emily's shoulder at the book. "There is a statue not too far from the door. That would probably work. I think it's even a statue of a woman, which would be appropriate."

((Going to bed after this comment. I'll be back tomorrow, 'cause this is fun!))

"Then perhaps I ought to frame it?" suggested Emily with a faint grin. She left the Closed Doors book to Anya and concentrated on the paragraph on dyeing. "Oh, this is where it went wrong..." She ignored the stained curtain and went for the other one, this time murmuring the incantation while moving her wand in slow, sweeping strokes over the fabric instead of merely pointing it. The curtain slowly went from white to light pink to a rather lovely shade of red. Sure it was a tad uneven in places, but still a vast improvement from her last try. Emily made a pirouette in utter delight. "Yes!"

She looked up from her success. "That would be just perfect! So we need a password now. Something simple, easy to remember both for the statue and for us, but still something that no one will be able to guess." She thought about it for a moment or two and then picked the first word that popped into her head. "Like... 'Hopscotch'."
