Harry's Birthday

Semi-open RP down by the lake.Lily stood in a small clearing by the lake and looked at her handiwork. Trees were strung with fairy lights, there was a large, enchanted bonfire complete with salamanders (though, to be honest, the salamanders hadn't been intentional), and there were several tables and chairs about the area, each with it's own ( Read more... )

Adam walked down to the lake smiling happily at all the decorations. He carried a small, nicely-wrapped package the size of a ring box in one hand.

"Hullo," he said to the group at large.

She looked at the table, thinking. "Vegetarian, yeah? Well, let's see. I know the potato jackets are, and all the desserts," she grinned, "obviously. There's some hummus and pitas - I tried it earlier and it's really quite good. Also some greek salad with feta cheese and olives."

Taking a plate she dished herself up some food. "So, what have you been up to, Adam? Haven't seen you around." Good thing it was a party, or she'd ask him where the hell he'd been while Anthony was being rejected by God and, apparently, having the shite beat out of him by some unknown (angel?) person. She grinned at him and reached for a bottle of butterbeer.

With a nod, Adam took some of the salad, hummus and pita, and potato jackets and took a seat at the table nearest the food.

"I've been off meetin' lots of people," he explained, poking gently at the hummus with a wedge of pita bread. "I met Mokuba and Seto and Setsuna and some people at sortin's. And I've learned about how to fry ice cream and put pineapple flavoured ice shavin's on top. I visited the giant squid and went explorin' and got in a stick fight and me and Mel are gonna build a Gryffindor tree fort and have a party when it's done. I'm just keepin' busy. I expect you are, too."

Adam was quite pleased that it was a party and she didn't feel that she could ask about Crowley because then he'd have to explain his policy of not messin' people about or interfereing unless someone is in serious danger and it would have taken a long time and very likely some hurt feelings before she understood why If she really wanted to know, he could tell her at another time when it wouldn't ruin Harry's birthday because his mum was upset.

She sat down next to him, taking a bite of her salad and washing it down with a drink of butterbeer. "You...you can fry ice cream?" she said, genuinely astonished. "Merlin." Lily leaned back and grinned. "That must be a neat trick, yeah? Is it a charm? Does it taste good?" She reached out and loaded a pita with hummus and chewed a bit in thought. "Oh, yeah, keeping busy. I got a giant tortoise named Phillip," she said happily. "He's brilliant."

Lily would, of course, never dream of doing anything to jeopardize Harry's birthday. And would probably hex anyone who tried. She also would probably never ask Adam about it, much like she'd never bring it up to Aziraphale. She just hoped that Adam would at least check in on Anthony at some point.

"Yeah!" he said enthusiastically. "Mokuba showed Gordy how to do it."

Adam had a bad habit of assuming that everyone knew everyone else the way he did and didn't bother to explain who Mokuba and Gordy were. "You've gotta dip the scoop of ice cream in a thin batter and fry it real quick before it can melt, but the batter gets crispy and then you can put cherry or chocolate syrup on and it's wonderful."

He tried the hummus and found that while it was slightly bland, he liked it quite a lot. "And a giant tortoise? That does sound brilliant. People have lots of interestin' pets 'round here."

And Adam hoped Lily wouldn't worry. He checked on Crowley constantly. It was just that the demon didn't often know it.

"Mokuba..." The name rang a bell. "Is he a little chap? Very enthusiastic? I think I've seen him, though I haven't been introduced. I don't remember meeting a Gordy, though."

Her eyes widened at his description of the ice cream and she grinned. "That sounds...perfectly decadent, actually. I'll have to try it sometime."

Nibbling at her pita, she nodded, "Seems to be the way of it. I've got two ducks in addition to Phillip, myself. And I heard you'd made a purple lamb." Lily laughed, "Now that's interesting."

"That's right!" said Adam, grinning. "That's Mokuba. Oh, Gordy is Professor Crowley's house elf. He wears sunglasses all the time, just like Crowley does. I think Mokuba might be considerin' it, too. They both look up to him quite a lot."

Stabbing an olive, Adam ate it and quickly drank some water afterward. It was considerably more salty than he'd been expecting. Still good, though. "I did cause I was provin' to Ryuuji that I could. Her name's Violet and me and Ryuuji sheared her once. She's the only nat'rally purple lamb in the world. She's a sweet lil' thing."

He didn't mention his own pet. It was a little painful to not have him around.

Nodding vaguely to his comment about Anthony, Lily took a bite of her salad. The feta cheese was really quite good. "She's probably just thrilled to be here," Lily smiled. "All my animals were other things previously, which is why I think they're all a bit odd. Phillip was a teapot, William was a quill, and Mr. Quackers was..." She laughed, "Well, I'm not quite sure. But my mate, Perry Cox, helped me train him to deliver my mail. Perhaps he was a letter opener, yeah?" she said lightly.

"Violet wasn't anythin'. She was the potential of bein' a purple lamb, if that makes sense. If not, I dunno how else to explain it."

Adam smiled at the idea of Mr. Quackers delivering the mail, but was otherwise quiet.

She nodded slightly, "Makes sense if I don't try to think about it too hard. Then it doesn't." She grinned at him. Somehow, she thought that Adam would understand that.

Taking a drink of butterbeer, Lily looked around. "Looks like everyone's been able to make it. Which is nice. Not everyday a bloke turns eighteen, yeah? Got to make a bit of a fuss."

He did. "That sounds like most of my life," Adam replied, smiling gently and radiating contentment.

"No one'd miss it. This is for Harry. I can't think of anyone that deserves it more." He glanced around. "Are we gonna watch him open the presents or will he do it later? 'Cause mine needs some explainin'..."

Lily laughed a little. "I know the feeling, mate."

Glancing around she said, "He deserves the world, Adam, and that's the truth. And the sprog of mine should be around here somewhere... You can give him his gift whenever you like." She turned back and smiled at Adam. "He's getting several gifts that will need further explanation, actually. Wizards can't help but show off a bit when we get together."

"I 'spect that's true," said Adam, grinning. Finishing his meal, he continued, "Well, if it's okay with you, I'm gonna go give it to him now. It's somethin' that as a mum you'll prob'ly like for him to have."

"Yes, of course. Thank you for chatting with me," Lily grinned. She looked curious as to what Adam's gift could be, but she simply stood gave him another hug. "And, again, thank you for coming, Adam."

"I had a good time, Lily. Thanks!" With a wave, Adam left to find Harry.
