Unaware that Helga was no longer around, Rowena sent the following owl to Godric, Salazar, and Helga:

Salazar, of course, went straight to the staff room, but only after making sure he was suitably attired for a rendezvous with his fellow Founders. Dark green robes of a heavy, expensive material were paired with a tall wizard's hat of a matching color - subdued but dignified, as befitting a wizard of his stature.

Glad to see the room was empty, Salazar debated briefly between waiting outside for Rowena and making sure everything inside was ready for their meeting. As it was, he decided that as Lady Rowena had been the one to call for a meeting, he should not enter without her, so remained outside the door to the staffroom.

Returning to the staff room after ordering tea, Rowena found Salazar waiting for her dressed in very fine robes. She glanced down at her own simple blue gown and frowned slightly, afraid she was underdressed.

"Salazar, my dear. How nice to see you. I do hope that I have not kept you waiting long. The refreshments should arrive momentarily."

Salazar, of course, thought that Rowena looked wonderful. Because Lady Rowena always did. You never questioned what a lady wore; if Rowena had chosen to wear a kirtle of neon blue with an electric pink bonnet, Salazar would have written it down to the current tastes and not said anything about it.

Though her behavior at the Masquerade!!!

He rather hoped that they wouldn't have to talk about that again.

Speaking the password to open the staff room, Salazar reassured Rowena, "I have not been here long, and it was foresightful of you to call for refreshments. Godric, will certainly be upset if there is nothing for him to eat."

There was an awkward moment then as Rowena remembered that the last time they spoke in person was at the Masquerade when she'd kissed Helga. She blushed lightly, hoping to have a chance to explain what had happened that night, though it certainly wouldn't help Salazar's peace of mind to know that someone had put a love potion into his drink. Whether it was intended as a prank or sincerely, she didn't know, but either had uncomfortable repercussions. Unsure whether it would be better to tell the truth or to have Salazar believe her capable of actions like those, she simply stepped delicately into the room and forced a smile.

"Dear Godric is always hungry. If I have learned nothing else by now, I have learned that."

'intimate tête-à-tête'? Why yes, Salazar did like the idea of that. Time with Rowena during which he didn't need to worry about Godric's more obvious charm and good nature outshining him? He cherished that idea.

Sitting down opposite from her, lowering himself to the chair carefully, he smiled at her and responded, "I have, as a matter of fact, been readying myself for the next History of Magic class. I hope you are still willing to act as my co-teacher, since I think that the next lesson should be of particular interest to you, Lady Rowena. I had thought to test their knowledge of reading by randomly distributing reading material amongst groups, and asking them to correct it. Does that sound like it would properly gauge the level of their knowledge?"

((Icon LOVE. Can I steal for Sal, with credit of course? XD))

"Of course, my dear. I am honoured that would you value my assistance. I confess that I do rather miss being more directly involved in the pupils' education."

Rowena considered the question. "That sounds like an excellent way to gauge their reading comprehension. Have you found the materials you intend to distribute yet?"

((Glad you like! Please do steal. I stole your doll after all... XD))

"As of yet, no. I am still searching for appropriate materials. Perhaps you would care to take half the class, and locate the tales needed for them? Anything that's set before the current era would do. My own preference is for tales of our time, since we would know better than anyone the accuracy of them, but I believe that accounts of more recent times, involving the rise and fall of certain Dark Lords descended from my line," And Salazar paused to give a disapproving 'hrmph' because really, for all of Tom's intelligence, he had grown up to be a snake-featured nitwit, "Might better hold the class's interest ( ... )

"I shall do anything I can to assist. How many of these tales would you like me to discover?" Rowena knew it wouldn't take her long to find the necessary materials. She knew just the place in the library to look.

After waiting patiently for the house elf to depart, Rowena smiled. "Some tea would be lovely, Salazar. Thank you." She watched carefully as he poured, not wishing for a repeat performance of what had happened at the ball, then accepted the cup graciously.

((*g* Yay! If I were cruel, I'd make one for Rowena and Godric, too... ;) Oh, I just thought of something. Who did Sal have kids with?))

Godric was defiantely late to the party, yes. He'd gotten distracted by some book for other and hadn't noticed the owl until it bit his ear. At which point he had to dash out of the library to the staff room, hair all mussed, and clothes dusty for his time searching the stacks. But, really, if Rowena and Salazar had been expecting Godric to be anything but messy when he showed up, they were fooling themselves.

He knocked on the door, a quick, loud rap, and waited to see if they'd let him in instead of just barging in.

Rowena recognized Godric's knock immediately, so she smiled at Salazar, set down her cup of tea, stood gracefully and moved to the door to open it.

"Hello, Godric. How nice to see you. Thank you for coming on such short notice. You need not knock, of course. As a professor you have every right to enter this room whenever you wish."

"Godric." Salazar nodded to the other, not getting up from his chair. Damn the man! Just when he and Rowena had been getting cozy... And yes, a chat about teaching plans counted as cozy if you were Salazar Slytherin.
