Dr Maturin sends some owls: to Susan Sto Helit, Jack Aubrey, Ginny Weasley

Mar 25, 2006 23:04

Susan -- I write this in haste; forgive the extreme informality. To prove this is written by my own hand: I remember a leaf hanging in mid-air. I write to say I have reason to believe you may find Professor Lupin a potential ally in your present difficulties. Provided you acquaint him with the perils of involvement therein, you could do worse than to take him into your confidence. -- Stephen.

My dear Jack,

I hope this owl finds you well. I fear I have sorely neglected you since your arrival at Hogwarts, and for that I humbly beg your pardon. Some matters concerning the young lady whom you met at your Sorting have occupied my attention as of late. In particular, she and I have become engaged to be married, though a date for the event has not yet been set and I was in no hurry to set one, but recent developments have somewhat altered my opinion on that score. There have been attendant difficulties, notably with the captain of her ship -- she had served on a kind of ship, you know, one that sails through the cosmos, or rather used to sail, as its entire crew is now here either as students or as popcorn. I may have to call upon the gentleman for satisfaction at some point and if so I shall require a second. Unless I miss my guess he will prefer to use pistols rather than swords, so it may be an unpleasant business, more so than usual. I should not like to repeat what happened with Canning.

Yours as ever,
Stephen.

Dear Ginny,

I am very worried about I wonder if you know anything about well, it would never do to ask.

I am becoming concerned that I have not quite proceeded with sufficient alacrity to content River, and wonder whether I ought to find whatever it is I am supposed to get by way of engagement jewelry or the like rather sooner than the DA meeting. It would not do to lose my fiancee to an upstart arrogant little git like that fellow who calls himself an emperor oh, dear, I had better cross that out. What say you?

Your friend,
Stephen.
