His room properly scribed with warding runes and Enochian magic, Bobby set out to explore his new surroundings. He felt.. itchy without at least one weapon on hand. Bobby knew all about the no-kill spell, but he was an old dog and a creature of habit.

The signs caught his eye and after only getting sidetracked twice, Bobby finally made it to the office. He started to reach into the box for a wand then the runes caught his attention. Calloused fingers traced the scratchings.

"Hm. Son of a bitch," he muttered.

((the runes on Wednesday's door give three of his names: Gagnráðr, Grimnir, Gangleri; there's a second line under that: Vituð ér enn eða hvat. It's a line from the Völuspá which I like to think would amuse Wednesday as much as it amuses me, and basically means, "Do you want to know more, or what?"))Of course, a touch to those runes was as good as a doorbell. The door opened -- with a creak to alert whoever was standing on the other side that they'd best step aside (as the door would open outward, and there was no need to bump anyone's nose ( ... )

He sidestepped the door easily enough and paused to read the final line of runes. Bobby gave an amused snort before looking into the office and the owner of the voice. If the runes weren't a big enough clue, the raven sure as hell was.

"Thanks." His eyes swept the room once as he walked in. He had been told about the no-kill spell, but thirty years of being a Hunter left him with habits he wasn't about to break.

Bobby nodded at the box of wands, "I'm guessin' these are for the new folks?"

Though the box of wands was sitting outside the room on the chair by the door, Wednesday took the direction of the fellow's nod to mean just that box.

"For anyone who lacks a suitable wand. It's a necessary tool for most 'wizards' hereabouts. Not everyone has need of it, of course. What about yourself?"

Now that things were recovered and Kuronue was going out on his own as well, Yukimura decided to explore, though somewhat more cautiously than normally. He saw one of the signs and decided it would be pleasant to talk with a professor. He noticed the marks outside the door, but not being familiar with the language they were written, took them for wards. He tapped on the door frame. "Hello, pardon the intrusion," he called into the room.

"No intrusion at all," came the cheery answer. "Consider yourself an invited guest." Which was to say, come on in, the water's fine.

Yukimura smiled and stepped in, stepping out of his sandals as he entered the room. "Thank you, then," Yukimura replied, bowing. "It has been a while since we last spoke, Professor. Have you found a resolution to your dilemma with Kojiro?" he asked, his voice rippling with amusement.

Wednesday remembered even if his mun didn't. "Kojiro's done me a good turn," he said pleasantly. "Done us all a favor, really. I have no beef against refrigeration, but I'm not a partisan for any gadgetry, so I've no problem sitting aside and letting Kojiro fight his war as best he may. And for yourself, how goes it?"

Rory had been to Wednesday's office before, to pick up a second-hand wand for himself, but they hadn't spoken. And he hadn't understood the runes, then.

He did now. His eyes widened, and he moved in for a closer look, running his fingertips across the carvings for a second, cautious, as though feeling to make sure he'd read them properly. "...seriously?"

As good as a doorbell.

Just as it had for Bobby, the door opened after a warning get-out-of-the-way sort of creak.

The office's owner and (at the moment) sole occupant did not rise, but called out:

"Do I have company, or are you here on other business?" Wand-picking business, it usually was.

Rory blinked, and stepped back quickly as the door opened. Okay, man with a raven and what might well be a prosthetic eye, it was hard to be sure from this distance but... chances were, he was talking to a genuine Norse god. Well, he'd already accepted aliens and demons and actual proper vampires and being a bit less than two thousand years old, this couldn't get that much weirder.

"I, er, I didn't mean to disturb you." He shrugged, apologetic. "Just reading that inscription. I'd seen it before but I didn't understand it, first time round."

((ooc: feel free to have Wednesday notice/point out that Rory's older than he should be. It makes things simpler ;) ))

First time round, eh? Still seated, Wednesday peered at the fellow in the doorway. (One-eyed though he might be, the Allfather had keen vision indeed.)

"You had long enough to learn," Wednesday pointed out. "Come in, and tell me what you understand, then."

The notice in the Ravenclaw common room was a little damp now, Terezi having wanted to make sure that she'd read it correctly. Her sense of smell was sharp, but not quite sharp enough to rely on for something as fine as written words.

For that matter, she had a little trouble with finding the right door, as well. Without any great variation in color to smell, she found herself having to feel out the engravings with her fingers, and she felt a little silly as she checked the plaque on the door. Satisfied that she'd found the right place, she tapped sharply on the door to announce her presence, while already opening it. "Hey. Ever considered adding a little color to your sign? It'd make it more... what's the term... 'accessible.'"

((While Wednesday's player is a big proponent of universal design and cares about a11y, Wednesday himself is ... um, 'indifferent' would be too strong a word.))

Mr. Wednesday didn't bother asking which sign, or what the visitor meant. "What knowledge worth having wasn't hard-won?" he asked. It was not a wholly rhetorical question, coming from the one who'd hung on a tree for nine nights and given up an eye for the sake of arcane learning. "I could add some Braille --" he knew about Braille; the ATMs of America often had Braille embossed on their plates or buttons, and Wednesday did know his way around an ATM. "But I doubt color would do much good for most visually impaired folk."

Whether Wednesday (being a god) knew much about Terezi's personal interest in color, or her abilities therewith, or for that matter her name, who knew? For the mun does not use the god char to godmod, and Wednesday was a cagey sort of fellow.

"If you want color, go see the Hat. You'll have rainbows of gauze and glitter."

Terezi shrugged. "There's vision difficulties and then there's vision difficulties. I suppose I'll manage, though," she said with a long suffering sigh. To be honest, she didn't really ever expect people to make much in the way of concessions for her; she just liked to harass them when they didn't.

"At least you've got the sign," she pointed out, leaning casually against the doorframe. "You know, you're the first person I've found who would admit to being a teacher in this place? Its like most of them are afraid of us students or something."

It was the box of wands that made the little prince stop in curiosity. And close by the chair was a note about Office Hours, so he stepped over to Wednesday's doorway, knocked to catch his attention, and said: "I've never seen any magic before. If I had a wand, could I do magic?"

Being a magician sounded like it might be an exciting occupation, after all.

"Likely you could," Wednesday supposed. "Would it please you to try? None of these wands has an owner. Could be one of them was waiting for you."

"Oh! I shouldn't like to keep it waiting any longer, if that's the case." The little prince wondered, though, how he could tame a wand. Very solemnly he asked: "Could you tell me a magic spell?"

"Perhaps Wingardium Leviosa might make a good beginning," Wednesday suggested. "Point the wand at, hmm ..." He took a quill from the inner pocket of his jacket. It had yet to be cut for use as a pen. "This feather," and he laid it carefully on the ground between them, "and say the words wingardium leviosa, just so, with intent."
