Along came a Spider ((Sock, Open RP, grounds, Kusuriyuri, Akabane))

Jul 25, 2010 05:53

The day was cooler than it had been recently, clouds obscuring the sun, promising rain, though just when that would happen remained to be seen as those clouds that became heavy enough to begin shedding their load onto the earth were shifted off, moved to another part of the sky, leaving lighter gray clouds hanging over Hogwarts, as though there ( Read more... )

Some bushes rustled as Cat rolled on his back in a patch of sands, pawing up above his head. When he saw Kusuriyuri nearing he rolled onto his hind legs and looked up at him curiously, then at the kitten in Kusuriyuri's collar.

he floated up a little, drifting towards Kusuriyuri, twirling around listlessly as he did. "Hello," he greeted them both.

Kusuriyuri paused and Boukensha meowed in complaint. The kitten-sized cat fluffed up, moving to stand on Kusuriyuri's shoulder, growling softly, uncertainly. Kusuriyuri brought his hand up to the kitten's side. "Hello," he responded automatically.

Cat's eyes flicked to Boukensha. "There, there little one," he said, waving a paw at the kitten in an oddly dexterous, comforting manner. "I mean you both no harm."

He was purring, in fact, as he glided up to Kusuriyuri and rubbed against his arm, nose to the very tip of his tail. "Plundering the forest, are we?"

It was a strange sensation, to have a floating cat brush up against his arm. "He has not seen cats that appear to float," Kusuriyuri replied. "He is used to cats being lower than he is when he is upon this one's shoulder," he explained. "This one is not accustomed to floating cats, nor to ones that speak, though he has met Wishbone."

Boukensha reached out, nose first, trying to get a scent of the strange cat. He settled, his paws on Kusuriyuri's chest, his head still following the strange cat, though he sat on Kusuriyuri's shoulder, obliging Kusuriyuri to move his hand to the cat's chest to help him balance.

"This one is seeking medicinal herbs," he replied to the quesiton.

Arya was up a tree, as was usual if the weather was not horribly foul. And even sometimes when the weather was--she was sure that Syrio would have told her that a water dancer would not have been constrained by mere weather.

For the moment, she rested, one skinny scabby leg dangling from the branch she sat on, Needle laid out carefully along the branch's surface so that the sword would be within reach in case of danger. She dozed lightly, leaning against the tree's trunk, almost peaceful.

Paranoia-sharpened senses woke her fully, and she saw the black-clad figure in a wide-brimmed hat. She drew her dangling leg up as quickly and quietly as she could, and flattened herself. Calm as still water, she thought. It was like a game, almost, seeing who she could and could not make not see her as they passed by.

Sunlight glinted off of Needle as a slight breeze moved the tree branches above her.

It was something very small, a glint of light filtered through clouds off of metal, something he couldn't mistake. Then there were the small movements, barely perceptible beyond the wind in the trees and the sounds of life within the forest. More, it was the breathing, the flow of breath in and out, too quickly, that caused him to stop. He turned, facing the tree, but didn't look up. "Yare, yare, what a strange bird," he said, his voice amused.

Arya froze and held her position for a handful of heartbeats, but gave an exasperated sigh and finally leaned her head out, peering down. "What gave me away?"

Better know for next time. She never knew when it would be a Lannister passing by.

Akabane tilted his head up to look at the girl. She was young but obviously had some potential. "You should not move your blade until you are ready to use it," he said. He brought a hand up, four scalpels between his fingers. "To show your weapon gives your opponent time to prepare."

The castle, while weird from the inside, was just plain bizarre from the outside. Sokka had become pretty well traveled over the past several months, thanks to a travel-happy Avatar and a flying bison that saved lots of travel time, and had seen architectural wonders from the ice city of the North Pole to the upside-down towers of the Western Air Temple, to the palaces of the Earth Kingdom and Omashu's earth bender powered mail chutes built into a mountain range. And this was... alien. Interesting, but alien ( ... )

Kusuriyuri looked over at the boy. "Saa," he murmured, rising from where he'd been collecting flowering herbs from the undergrowth. "There is a grove where there may be papaya." He frowned a moment, trying to remember if A grew peaches with his pears and mikarin. "This one cannot remember if there are peaches."

"Oh good," he said, melting a little in relief. "That's--"

He did a double take, mouth falling open and eyes bugging a little as he took in the man's appearance. What kind of weird place was this? It was like the animals were half of what they should be and the people were squished together.

"...hi?" he squeaked.

It wasn't often that his appearance was commented on. Most people saw what they wanted to see, after all. Kusuriyuri blinked and Boukensha meowed curiously. The cat shifted in Kusuriyuri's collar so he could get a better look. Kusuriyuri waited until the cat was settled again. "Is something wrong?" he asked. "Have you eaten something you are not familiar with?"

Koromaru was on her lap getting pettings as Fuuka enjoyed the weather while she could, knowing that rain was on the way. Her eyes had been closed, but sensing a familiar non-human, she opened her eyes to see Kusuriyuri.

"Hello," she said.

Kusuriyuri looked at the girl. There was something different about her now. Was she aware of it? he wondered. "Hello," he replied. "Have you been well?" he asked, moving closer to her to make the conversation easier. She felt the same as Apos. That was worrying.

"Somewhat." She frowned. "He attacked me again. I was lucky Koro-chan," she indicated to the dog looking at Kusuriyuri curiously, "had been there to attack him, but..."

Kusuriyuri nodded to the dog, kneeling. Boukensha protested that his ride wasn't moving anymore, though and hopped down to play in the grass, utterly ignoring the dog. "But?" he asked, prompting her to continue.

Kaga's face was grim as he spotted Kusuriyuri. "Are you aware that Karasu has returned?"

Boukensha rose from his place on Kusuriyuri's shoulder and meowed, stretching down the peddler's arm to jump from his elbow. He stalked over to Kaga, tail high, and demanded to be picked up, one paw on Kaga's leg, the other waving at him.

"This one has seen him," Kusuriyuri replied, his voice as grim.

Well, Kaga was not about to disobey his kitty prince. He picked up Boukensha and nuzzled him.

"I managed to get away unscathed, for now, but that had been because I sent for help." And Kuronue had answered, that had been what the muns agreed on since RL has bitten Kuro-mun in the ass.

Kusuriyuri made a wry face. "This one was not unscathed, but he did not leave that one unscathed either," he said, his tone making 'that one' and insult and carrying a touch of pride. "It is good that help arrived," he added. "If you are in need of wards, this one will give you some."
