Inside the castle, a table was set for a grand feast, and at the head of the table sat the most handsome prince imaginable. She sat down and ate the feast, but the food tasted like ashes. The prince's tongue flickered in and out of his mouth like a snake's tongue. Scatterheart shook her head.

'You're not my white bear,' she said, and left the castle ( Read more... )

Mel doesn't even bother trying to be subtle about it. Twenty minutes after the message is posted, she shows. Angels can sense uneasiness, even outright fear, and though it's a toss-up whether these powers work all the time at Hogwarts or even at all--Mel is there.

"A three-headed dog? Omigod, babe! I can help heal that if you want."

'Oh yes, if you please.' Hannah smiled, thankful beyond belief that Mel answered her call ... or rather, her message. It was nice to see a familiar face - Hogwarts was so big! So maze-like. More often than not she would turn a corner and end up facing a dead end. She felt utterly hopeless.

Hannah moved to Mel, the computer's screen off setting her blonde hair: making it seem whiter, more like bone-marrow in the gloom of the laboratory.

Girl doesn't look entirely healthy. Still, Mel is optimistic that she'll find her place in Hogwarts. She eventually did. Her hands fill with an ebbing mint-green light, and she lays them on Hannah's cut.

"So, how'd the dog episode come about?"

Hannah watched for a moment as the light illuminated the blood soaked gauze. Her eyes were fixated as she said, 'I had gotten lost on my way: I had been searching for the lavatory.' Hannah's hand slipped into the pocket of her sunflower-yellow pelisse. She had taken to wearing her houses colours with pride. From it she took out her wand she had adopted from Mr. Wednesday's box owner-less wands. A pleasantly springy willow wand, nine inches precisely with a core consisting of unicorn mane; she palmed it as if it were a life line.

'I had foolishly thought that the door presiding on the second floor corridor would lead me to one. I hadn't enough time to take out my wand, before the creature stared me down and started gnashing its jaws at me.' She had been petrified. She stowed away her wand. 'In my haste to close and lock the door, the thing grazed me with one of its teeth; I believe it was the middle head that inflicted the wound.' She sighed, finally looking up to meet Mel's gaze.
