((Taken from the end of Petals on the Wind . There will be spoilers. Also, I have chosen to write up the app in first person, but all comments will be made using third-person narration, because I can be snarkier that way

Cathy's capacity for seklf-delusion was endless. She decided that this red-headed man was only being snarky because he wanted her, and couldn't express that.
She gave him a contemptuous glance. "I'm sorry you don't approve of my name," she said. "It is mine, though, whether you like it or not!"
"How *dare* you speak of my husbands that way!" Cathy raged, reaching out to slap him across the face, a blow Turlough could, of course, easily avoid. "Julian and Paul were good men, and even though I don't claim the Foxworth name, it did ask for my full name, so don't go around insulting things you know nothing about!"
Cathy shrugged. "I take it you prefer other men, then," she said, making it a statement rather than a question. Because in the world of Cathy Dollanganger, no man could possibly refuse her unless they were... that sort.
"Well, some men may have better control over it than others," Cathy allowed. "But unless you're one of those horrible people that thinks sex is a sin, you're more ruled by it than you think." She gave him a compassionate look. "It's all right to acknowledge those urges. They're perfectly healthy!"
"Your mother murdered your sister with doughnuts?"
Hook was, it seemed, doing a good job of controlling his manly lusts. He was trying to control his sense of humor, at the moment. It was difficult not to joke about the doughnut deaths.
Let the record show that Hook had better control over his sense of humor than Cathy's mun.
Cathy eyed Hook appraisingly, and decided she liked what she saw. "Not exactly," she said. "But she did try to kill us all with sugar doughnuts laced with arsenic. *She* claimed it was because there was no way to get us out of the Grandmother's house, but I don't believe her. Only Cory died, but Carrie committed suicide years later in that same way." Two large tears shimmered in Cathy's eyes. "It was horrible," she said. "Carrie didn't do anything wrong, but our mother ignored her and didn't care about her, and Carrie was led to believe she was an abomination against God. None of that would have happened if it hadn't been for that bitch, our mother!"
Unbeknownst to himself, Hook happened to embody a few traits Cathy Dollanganger liked a lot: He was blond. He was a doctor. And he was a little too old for her.
However, he wasn't related to her, nor was he married to any of her relatives. Saddest of all, he wasn't old enough to be really too old for her. This might be his salvation.
"Your sister committed suicide by doughnut," he repeated slowly. "You've lived an unusual life, Ms. Dollanganger."
Cathy had no idea that Hook actually thought she was ricdiculous. He was the first person in this place to show any sort of kindness towards her. That put a plus in his favor.
"I have," she said meditatively. "I really ought to write a book about it someday."
"My ex-girlfriend wanted me to grow my fur out because she wouldn't date anyone other than Persians. My fur wasn't good enough for her? Mine? I'm a purebred Siamese! I'm cat royalty! My fur should be used as currency by lesser nations!"
"My momma had fur-lined negligees," Cathy informed Bucky. "She had money to buy that, but she couldn't get us out of that awful house!" She sighed sadly. "It's so terrible to be so misunderstood and underappreciated, isn't it?"
"Uncontrollable lust?" Two words guaranteed to get James Bond's attention. "Do you think being overtaken by lust is only a man's problem? Or that women can succumb to it as well?" While maybe not overcome, it was certainly on his mind right now.
As he spoke, he took off his jacket. "You must be freezing," he said, and offered it to her. How on earth could he have guessed?
Cathy certainly had no idea how he knew she was cold. But she was grateful for the thoughtful gesture and put the coat on anyway. "Thank you," she said with a smile. "I really was cold. As for lust, well, of course women can experience uncontrolled lust. I know I have, but I like for a man to be aggressive. It brings that sort of emotion out in me!"

He confined himself to remarking: "Tragic."
