compy post: conversations with god(s)

The Baby Sun had been gone for a week, and nothing had spontaneously combusted, been covered in pink sludge or played disturbing music in that time. Mikami had finally accepted that it probably wasn't going to, and that the world around Hogwarts had returned to - comparative sanity.

Which left him free to think of other things. Specifically, the Read more... )

Normally he wouldn't have the time, but since he was still moping over his lost project and wandering the halls, he stopped in at the computer lab. Any distraction would be welcome.

God? In my own country, there was a Dr. Ambrose who proposed an accessable 'higher power' who might or might not be the creator of the universe. Anyway, he never finished his second paper- he started to claim that he'd established contact with this god person...then that he was the god person. At the end of it he was trying to make guards explode by pointing his finger at them. Not a very efficient weapon of terror.

Like I've said, this isn't my field or I'd be more helpful.

I know there's a purpose to my life. I don't like this purpose, but I can change it. I just have to work harder at it.

He was claiming to have encountered a new god? Or do you mean there was no religion at all, where you come from? That's - hard to imagine.

Thank you for your time, anyway.

Can you tell me any more about that purpose?

Not a new god, really. He said it was the ONLY god, when he wasn't talking about badgers. Bit hard to understand if you were only trained in classical physics.
There were religions. They were re-evaluated in the light of scientific knowledge. Some might still be around.

I was made to help. Not me, myself, but over generations.

...ah. I see.

What is it about that that you're trying to change?

[And I'm amazed you weren't the first comment, Ryuk. He wouldn't actually type that, of course. Ryuk probably already suspected this was him.]

Would you care to elaborate? You seem very enthusiastic about it.

Well, I'm a god of death, and I could kill you with a few swishes of my pen.

I wouldn't have thought a god of death would use pink glitter text.

I have met a goddess a long time ago. She merely wished to give her blessing to some special battles I had arranged in Beijing, though.

'Merely?' And - what was the outcome of those battles? If you don't mind my asking.

Well, I say merely because she did not choose to watch the battles themselves. I do not mean to belittle her.

The representative for Szechuan cuisine, my own Iron Chef Chinese, was the final victor.

Oh, I see. You're a fortunate man, by the sound of it.

I'm really kinda regretting not getting a better account name now...

But yeah, I've met gods. A lot of them were a little... off. I mean, y'know, Hades talks like a bad stand-up comedian.

...I don't suppose he also uses glitter text?

[Almost certainly not, but he was trying to keep up the impression that he didn't know who Ryuk was.]

Doubt it. Not many computers in the Underworld.

They sound - unlike what I'd have expected. Disappointing.

I've spoken with a fair few gods. They're a stubborn and shortsighted lot, by and large.

What do you, personally and specifically, want from a god? For a drop of faith they'll fill you full of advice, if you know how to ask.

What do I want?

...meaning, I suppose, is the simplest way of putting it. To know why I'm here.

Here:

as in Scotland?
as in Hogwarts?
as in school?
as in Planet Earth?
as in humankind?

As in humankind. And possibly as in Hogwarts, but I have my doubts that there's any purpose behind that.
