The owl found Methos in the library, immersed in several ancient texts that had been recommended by Aziraphale. He looked up as the owl fluttered in and perched on a stack of Aramaic texts.
“Hey! Careful there.. hold still. Ow!” Methos ignored the quickly healing bite to his hand and read the note. The prefect elections.. damnit, he had completely forgotten. He started stacking up his work, shoving the Aramaic texts and his translations into a manageable pile before writing a quick return note.
Brienne, I would love to meet you for a celebratory picnic. I’ll meet you out by the lake in about twenty minutes. -M
Brienne didn't bother with a return owl. As soon as she received Methos's note, she gathered the picnic supplies from the house elves and trundled down to the lake with a substantial hamper of food. Yet again, for an inexplicable reason known only to the house elves, the picnic consisted of Midwestern American food--potato salad, corn on the cob, baked beans, an apple cobbler, and, of course, fried chicken. Brienne had also brought the promised red wine.
She had missed Methos's company more than she might have wanted to acknowledge, and she was smiling warmly shen she saw him coming towards her. "Hello!" she called, setting the basket down to wave.
He crested the hill and smiled, returning her wave. Methos quickened his step, glad he had taken the time to stop by his room and change into a nicer shirt. His typical trenchcoat was absent, as was his sword, but he wasn't completely unarmed. After all, you don't get to live five thousand years without always being somewhat paranoid.
He gripped her arm gently, leaning in to kiss her cheek. "Congratulations on your victory, Brienne," he murmured.
Brienne returned the arm grip and smiled. "Thank you! I hope I can be a credit to the job... for whatever it's worth. How have you been while I've gotten involved in politics, such as they are?"
