Owls to some friends (and maybe some RP, too.)

Brienne was becoming quite the regular correspondent lately. And in the case of this first owl, she was mostly sending it out of the blue, because she had no idea that Jill's mun was, indeed, actually around these days. All she knew was that she'd missed her drinking buddy-cum-sparring partner. As for her second owl of the day... well... that was ( Read more... )

Return note by Jill's grey gnome turtledove_jill December 8 2008, 03:04:23 UTC
When the owl came flapping in Jill looked up expectantly, then realised it was far too small to be a shapeshifted person (in her type of magic, at least). She took the message and politely thanked the owl, then set about removing the warding and puzzling out the letter, carefully sounding it out aloud. It was only a few years since she'd actually learned to read and write, after all.

Once she worked out the message she smiled and carefully wrote out a reply, her handwriting big and spiky and childlike, then copied Brienne's warding on it and gave it to her grey gnome with strict instructions to give it to Brienne and only Brienne.

Brienne was delighted for such a quick response.

After puzzling out the handwriting, she dashed off another quick note which she sent back with the gnome.

I am in the Gryffindor common room. Come join me!

No return note this time. After Jill finished puzzling out the note (which didn't take as long as this one was shorter), she found the skin of mead she mentioned in her note to Brienne and went hurrying down the stairs to the commonroom. She gave wide berth to the equipment there - she had no idea what it was, so avoiding it seemed the best option for now.

"Bri!" she called out upon spotting Brienne, before her gnome decided to dance under her feet. "Here, out the way or you'll get stepped on," she scolded it before scooping it up in her free hand. "Bri! How are you?"

Brienne had jumped eagerly to her feet when she heard Jill's step on the stairs and she hurried forward at sight of the other girl.

"Jill!" she exclaimed, moving in for an awkward hug, wmade all the more awkward for her desire not to smoosh either the gnome or the skin of mead in the process. "It's so good to see you. You look well!"
