Application for Agent Fields: Quantum of Solace

There are no spoilers for the plot of Quantum of Solace, except for that bit at the very end, where he wakes up and it turns out that the whole series was a dream Michael Scott had

"I'm not real crazy about the dark either. There's a lot of us around here like that," Laura said, and blew a stray lock of hair out of her face. "Y'know, we like really need to start the Dead Girls Club back up again?"

"I didn't expect to be in the... well, the dark," she said a bit nervously. Fields hadn't quite come to grips with the situation. "And there's enough for a club?"

"I kinda did? But I didn't expect it to be so - so horrible," Laura said, dimming, then brightened back up. "Oh yeah! Well, there were when we had the club before, but some of 'em have left school since then. But then we're getting new ones like you in all the time, seems like. But it's a good idea, don't you think? I mean, I at least got to be a ghost for a while before I came here, but most seem to come straight here from, well, the dark, you know? Very confusing."

Fields had a very polite, slightly puzzled smile plastered on her face, because yes, it was very confusing. "Is it like a welcome party?" she asked. "I'd like to know what's expected of me, now that I'm here."

She ran her hand through her bangs again. "And now that I'm here, I've forgotten all of my manners. I'm Fields. It's nice to meet you."

Vesper came in just in time to hear Fields ask about her signature, and smiled.

"I wouldn't worry too much about the name thing, m'dear, it can't possibly be worse than..." She picked up the completed application and went straight to the signature lines. "...oh. Oh my." She covered her face with a hand. "Oh my..."

"You can call me Fields," she said with the air of forced cheerfulness of somebody who had heard it all before. "Just Fields."

She cleared her throat and visibly straightened her face, then extended a hand. "Vesper. Vesper Lynd. So, you see. Don't you? Of course you do. I must say it's not often I meet someone who can compete with me in the Regrettable Name Sweepstakes."

"Not everybody can be named after a song," she said. "No matter how much they regret it. You'd fit right in with my family. My sister's name is Poppy, and my brother's is Barley."

"That necklace is not unattractive," Waltorana von Bielefeld allowed, with what for him was notable generosity.

He himself was wearing his usual big purple earrings.

She picked it up and held it out. "Would you like it?" Fields asked. "Chunky jewelry is in style right now." She gave Waltorana her best sales-girl smile, hoping that completing the bribing process would get her done faster.

[charlesofdensen]

"Aaaand the psychopathic disciplinarian comes in at three...two..." Ofdensen was looking at his watch.

"I beg your pardon?" she asked. "Should I have waited to fill out the form?"

"No. He just automatically squibs anyone that answers cheddar."

She made a face. "Well, that's rude."

But they're BOTH nice!

A talking dog! If this was Heaven, Strawberry wasn't going to complain. He was so cute! Fields bent down on one knee to be closer to the terrier. "Oh?" she asked. "Have you met them?"

Well, I've met George in person. But I've heard of them! They're both nice. They just like to play jokes on people.

"Oh dear. Then which one do you think Harry should choose?" She held out her hand so that Wishbone could smell it.
