Open RP - Not Quite Perfect

Aug 05, 2008 14:01

L had suggested trying to create charms triggered by mood or action, rather than by the traditional wave-wand-yell-incantation, and that's just what Matt's doing. It's tricky work - not quite the same as the runework Matt's become used to - and it's the first time he's tried it. So it's not really that surprising that he messes up.

He had not done anything to deserve the energy bitchslap he'd just felt, not that he outright knew of, but feel it he did, and Kurama felt... stronger for it?

Stronger and... taller.

Oh, damn. So much for secrecy. Looks like whoever he ran into would discover he was a kitsune whether he liked it or not.

"That's probably for the best," he looked her up and down appraisingly, "you'd distract the boys too much."

The backlash was more than Kusuriyuri expected to feel. He glances at his companion and then at himself. "Is it so, then?" he asks, rhetorically almost as he sees his other's markings on his hands. He wonders where the shamanistic tea was, though he cannot remember drinking any.

"Kusu?" Matt's voice is higher and lighter than normal, and he's a good few inches shorter. (If he'd stayed the same height, he'd be about average for a young woman his age; apparently he's destined to be short as a girl, too.)

"What's with the tattoos?"

Kusuriyuri tilts his head at the girl, taking a moment to identify her...him. "Matt? What has been done?" he asks, a faint note of amusement in his voice.

He looks back at his hands. "They are not tattoos," he corrects without answering the question.

"I don't look that different!"

Not that he's seen himself. But he's wearing the same clothes - it's sort of embarrassing, being taken for a girl so easily.

"I fucked up an experiment and now it's, I dunno, acting up. What are they, then? Some demon thing, or another effect of the spell?"

"A demon thing," Kusuriyuri agrees vaguely. "Though, it would seem your spell called this form out." He tilts his head to the other side. "What were you trying to do, Matt?" Maybe the answer would reveal where the problem originated.

"Fuck, you're not a split too, are you?"

He's just had to deal with B. And B.

"Basically, uh. Triggering charms in... non-traditional ways. Not, like - with a mood, or an emotion, or maybe a combination of that plus a keyword. I was still thinking in terms of runework, though, so I let some stuff slip past." He's been working with Kusuriyuri often enough on the fuda to be comfortable talking to him about what he was trying to achieve.

"Ah, no, there seems to be just one of me this time," Kusuriyuri reassures Matt.

He listens to what Matt is saying, untangling it from the boy's typical way of mixing multiple concepts together at the same time. "Perhaps you should blend the fuda with your runes before changing the trigger for the runes? Fuda may be more responsive to what you are working toward." If he can create fuda against B, then they have to be fairly refined. "Perhaps, set the fuda to react to what you will and then have the fuda trigger the runes and the runes set the spell? Though, it is unwise to let 'stuff slip past' when experimenting in public," he says the last in his most solemn, therefore most teasing, tone.

"I've been wondering about that - having the three elements as a sort of dominoes effect would be pretty clunky, but... would directly combining fuda with certain runes dilute it? I mean, obviously the symbols themselves are pretty different, but that's a stylistic thing more than anything. And would they react to positive influences as well as approaching dangers?" He's actually wondered about that since the beginning, but hadn't really considered it worth asking.

A small grin. "Yeah. I thought this would be safer since it's away from all my electronics, but..."

Kusuriyuri considers the flurry of questions. "Saa..." he murmurs. "Could your runes be used in fuda?" he asks, partially to himself, partially to Matt. "Do they use the same energy?" he asks, not having worked with runes himself.

"Sort of. There's not the same intensity of focus - they sort of pull it towards them, if you know what I mean, instead of getting... imbued with them? It's difficult to explain. There's a difference, but they're pretty similar. They might be complimentary, if I balanced it right."

Kusuriyuri regards Matt a long moment. "Perhaps that is your answer?" he suggests. "You should know enough of ward making to attempt to blend them. As long as the energies remain in balance, it may work."

"... yeah, I guess." A sheepish grin. "I'll let you know how it goes. Better than this, hopefully."

He's still really curious about the golden markings.

Kusuriyuri gives Matt an utterly solemn look. "There are worse options," he replies, his tone matching his expression. "Your clothing remained," he adds, still solemn.

"I'm glad you are amused," Youko grumbled. He tried to slouch, or bend, so that he didn't loom so much over Kusuriyuri. "Do these things happen often?"
