It was exciting, exploring the internet on the computer Matt had given him, but Einstein and Schrodinger tended to get bored within the confines of A's small room, especially when A wasn't paying attention to them

"You have another one," Jezz observed, coming up with a viper around his arm and a somewhat better-behaved Ragari perched on his shoulder. He thought back. "Schrodinger and...?"

"Ah." He'd run into a few vaguely similar. "Out of moral concern or lack of equipment?" He rather doubted the former.

"Probably because it would not prove anything. It merely shows how peculiar the behavior of subatomic particles would be on a larger scale."

Jezz nodded.

"Black cats are a sign of good luck," he mentioned after a beat.

[i_am_an_hero]

"They have both brought me good fortune."

[jezzthespoon]

"Especially good luck, then. Where did you get them?"

[i_am_an_hero]

"Ryuzaki gave them to me," A says proudly.

[jezzthespoon]

"So even more luck. I summoned Keheneshnef years ago, and I got Ragari from a man here who was selling ravens last winter."

[i_am_an_hero]

"Are snakes and ravens lucky, then?"

[jezzthespoon]

"Ravens are. They're sacred in my faith, like black cats. For a familiar, though, I wanted something that could get through tight spaces."

For example, the cracks in a rockfall.

"A... familiar?"

The usage of the word wasn't one A recognized.

[jezzthespoon]

"A mage's companion. They're more intelligent than a normal animal, and can communicate with the mage who summoned them."

[i_am_an_hero]

"So he is... special, then?"

[jezzthespoon]

Some unintelligible hissing later from both parties, "He seems to think so."

On this adjective, Jezz and Keheneshnef were certainly agreed.

"Einstein and Schrodinger are special to me, and I learn from them. They know how to be happy and to greet people."

[jezzthespoon]

"You learn how to be happy?" There were places, he knew, where the knowing could be a rare thing.
