A large toothed anteater lumbered over to the newcomer, intruiged.

In a cool voice, he asked, "You mentioned a legion. What legion would that be? You certainly dont look like a Roman."

Equally intrigued, Dawnstar knelt to study the anteater-creature.

"That would be the Legion of Super-Heroes. May I ask what world you are from? I have never seen a species quite like yours."

Super-heroes was a term he had heard on a few occasions, though most universes he had been to they had simply been stories.

"Ah, a super-hero. I've never actually met one before, though the costumes does look about right. What powers come along with that dashing ensemble?"

He nodded at himself, semming to regard his own form. "I don't know what you would call this, exactly. My current form comes from a little girl mishearing and mispronouncing my name. No one seems to hear it correctly when I say it. As for what world I'm from, I come from a world between other worlds."

"I am a deep-space pathfinder, as I said. The Legion gave me a way to apply my powers to something more meaningful than just earning a fee," she replied.

"Between other worlds...Interesting. I have been to a few such places. What is yours like?"

Megan fluttered over from her own Sorting. "Hey! Someone was just talking to me about a Legion! And you have wings! Are you... um, what did he say... Star-something or something-star, I'm sorry, I can't remember. Nice to meet you, thought! I'm Megan! I used to be a New X-man but the team got dissolved so I came here instead to learn magic. Can you do magic?"

"Star Boy, perhaps? Or Starman, he calls himself in this time. I sense he is nearby." She smiled. "Hello, Megan, I am Dawnstar. I know no magic, but one of our fellow Legionnaires does, the White Witch. Is that what this place is for, learning magic?"

"Starman! Yeah, that was it! He had a sparkly suit. I thought it looked cool. It's nice to meet you! My code name's Pixie, so you can call me that if you want. The White Witch? We have a Scarlet Witch but nobody's seen her since M-day and it's probably for the best. She could do magic too, and it caused a lot of problems because she went crazy. Yeah, this place is a magic school! I'm hoping it's easier to learn than the spell I know. I also hope I don't have to hang upside-down to learn it all. Oh, but you don't have to take a vow of silence here, even if this really mean scary guy said I had to but nobody else mentioned it so I'm pretty sure I believe them instead." Megan finally stopped to inhale.

Dawnstar grimaced, remembering being sixteen and on her own for the first time at the Legion Academy. "Adults sometimes like to make jokes at young ones' expense. I've never thought it very funny. Once I went to the place where the White Witch learned magic, the Sorcerors' World. It was very strange...the landscape was constantly changing."

She glanced around, suddenly connecting some of the oddities of this place with the oddities of the Sorcerors' World. Up to then she had not had a mental classification for "how magic places feel," but she was quickly building one.

Jemma peeked into the Sorting Room with a playful smile, checking to see if there were any new arrivals. As she gazed the room, she froze in terror. Standing by the door, she found herself immobile and she couldn't move. The woman's large wings were beautiful and terrible all at the same time and Jemma was transported back into the hospital. She felt as if she was there, and the angel's voice echoed in her ears.

Was this the angel?

Jemma went to speak, but couldn't find any words.

Dawnstar noticed the redhead's startled reaction. She got this sometimes, both in places governed by religions with angel mythologies, and on worlds where genetic engineering was unknown. It's why, when designing the mission back to the 21st century, Brainiac 5 stationed her on Thanagar; the hawk-worshippers had for centuries used prosthetic wings, and she could move about unnoticed.

"Hello. I am Dawnstar." She kept her voice low and gave the woman a mild, unthreatening smile.

Jemma didn't try to hide her apprehension, instead, she tucked a stray hair behind her ear and offered a half smile. "Oh. Hi." Jemma didn't recognize the voice and she breathed out in relief. "Recording angel?"

"No angel at all," she replied easily. "My ancestors were as human as you. They made some genetic modifications, the wings and all, and migrated from Earth to a world called Starhaven. Or they will in a few centuries - this is the 21st century, is it not?"

Soulmates. Now there was a topic John knew a little about. "So, on average, how long does it take a person to complete their Grand Tour?" he asked.

"We begin the journey three months before our eighteenth birthday," she replied, an eyebrow raised. This was the last thing in her answers she expected anyone to pick up on. "Are you this 'Harry'?"

"No, no," John said. "My name's John. So are you supposed to find this person before you turn eighteen? Or do you get a little bit longer than that?" If this woman knew a way to find a soulmate in three months, well, sign him up.

"Not precisely. We end the journey at the hour of our birth at our naming-place, and there the Creator gives us a sign from which we find the one we are destined for." She suppressed another flinch.

"Anyone can be a little bit clever or a little bit witty!" Ron offered. "You just have to meet someone who had the right sense of humor for you. And I think your name for the bar is right proper word play. Because it's The Reservation because you might need one to be seated there... or you might have reservations about eating there because of the health codes violations." The redhead thought for a bit more, before announcing, "Miles of possibilities!" although he could only think of two.

Ah. Another like Polar Boy, with his eternal optimism. Well, there were worse things.

"Thank you. I have met someone whose sense of humor fits mine, but he is...a very long way away." Ten centuries away, to be precise.

"Oh," Ron answered, feeling a bit awkward. "Sorry, then." He tried to think of something to make her feel better. "At least he's not popcorn!" Like Ron's girlfriend! But Primavera being popcorn was also a nice way to avoid a really awkward break-up, so it wasn't all bad.

"...Yes. That is a good thing." Popcorn? "Do people you know often turn into popcorn?"
