Falling, falling ((Closed RP))

((Backdated to the chocolates.))

Claire couldn't know it, but she was in the grips of a chocolate-induced paranoia. The link between her brain and her lips seemed to have been severed, and she was telling the world every thought that popped into her head. She owed Nick an apology, when she felt she could trust her mouth again. But he was just ( Read more... )

Reilly's eyebrows rose in surprise, and he stood aside and waved her in.

"What can't you stop talking about?"

"I don't know! I've already called poor Nick silly, and he isn't silly, but his bow tie is. He is too handsome and serious to be wearing it. And I called him dull, but he needs to talk more about himself, and not his friend. I came here because you've been here longer than I have, and maybe you would know something? But I came also to take more cigarettes, because I've run out and I can't use your lighter without cigarettes. Also, you have good drinks and you smell nice, and maybe you wouldn't think I was crazy if I came to you."

If that didn't answer his question, nothing would. She couldn't shield her thoughts, or make amends. Claire couldn't hide anything for the time being.

"Well. You're quite welcome." He moved to a side table, retrieved a wooden box of cigarettes. "These aren't much good to me without a lighter now, are they? And I don't think you're crazy. Certainly not by Hogwarts standards, and probably not at all."

Reilly sipped at the rye he had already poured before Claire's arrival, and held up a bottle for her approval. "Have you any idea what set you off? Was anyone hurling random hexes, perhaps? The casting can be rather subtle; you might well have missed it."

Luckily, she had the lighter with her. Claire pulled it out of a pocket within her massive sweater. "If I hadn't run out of cigarettes, I wouldn't have given it back." Realizing what she said, she buried her face in her hands. "Now you'll think I'm a thief. And I am."

She rustled up a glass, and held it out to him to fill. "I was in the Great Hall, and I was hungry. They had chocolate there, which is good, because the food here is not so good. But if all I eat is chocolate, I'll get sick! I don't want to get sick." She sighed. "And now I'll have a few drinks, and no food. Not even caviar."

"Done. And since you are the master of all things unserious, mademoiselle, lead on."

Claire shifted on his lap so that she could get a better angle. "We could talk about all of these clothes," she said, unbuttoning his vest. "You're wearing so many of them, with so many buttons. Of course, who am I to talk? My clothes require origami to wear. How many layers do you have under there, Sidney?"

"As few as the law will allow," he replied, and hooked a finger in the asymmetric neckline of her shiftdress. "Origami, eh? This doesn't look too inscrutable."

She giggled. "You haven't seen anything yet. The laws of physics are the only laws for the clothes I wear." In 1999, clothes tended toward geometric, and Claire had always been ahead of the curve. She finished with the vest and moved on to his shirt. "That's one."
