From behind his goggles, Matt blinks.

"Slapping somebody doesn't mean you need to marry them." I mean, come on. By that logic... well, okay, he's never actually slapped someone across the face before. Or been slapped. But STILL.

Gwendal's frown deepens and that spot between his eyes tightens again. "It is the custom and law where I come from." He shifts. "What are the customs here?" he asks. Might as well ask someone.

"In English speaking countries, at least, it's traditional to go down on one knee, offer a ring and make a proposal." It might be the same elsewhere, it might not; Matt may have been technically-a-genius but he didn't really care much about wedding traditions. "But nothing's legally binding until they're actually married."

Gwendal nods, relieved at a simple answer, one he can almost understand. He lets his hands fall to his sides. "Thank you for explaining." He wasn't quite sure what "English speaking" meant, but everyone here seemed to speak the same language as the Maoh, so that must be it. "I should like to study traditions and legalities," he added, wanting to draw out more information.

Yuuri has decided to take his curry distribution project to a new level. If his mother is right, and curry really does promote world peace, he ought to share it more often! What better way to kick off a new student's Hogwarts term than with a welcoming bowl of curry?

He has also decided that being greeted by Wolfram would not make for a warm welcome, so he didn't ask Wolfram to accompany him and his curry to the Sorting Room. He's hoping that he's actually going to be able to talk to someone new without Wolfram yelling about cheaters and wimps, or challenging the hapless newcomer to prove they are worthy of being voted Hufflepuff.

He's cheerful as he enters the Sorting Room alone.

However, the person he sees there is not anyone he has expected to see at Hogwarts. He stops short so abruptly that a little curry spills over the rim of the bowl he's carrying.

"G-Gwendal?!"

Not that he's not happy to see Gwendal!~ He's just ... really, really surprised! And a little worried this means he, Yuuri, might have done something ( ... )

Gwendal blinks. Unseen, his hand goes into his pocket, finding the toy dolphin, Bando-kun there. At last, someone he knows. "Your majesty," he replies crisply. "There seems to have been a slight redirection in our plans. This does not appear to be your home."

"YUURI!" Wolfram screamed as he ran through the halls, looking for his absentee fiancé. What was the Maou doing, leaving the Mazoku alone to guard the curry from thieving students, who would snatch the food out from under him even when it was free? Perhaps Yuuri was in the sorting room, to flirt with new-coming students who weren't even Hufflepuffs?

"There you are! Yuuri, I-!" The blond widened his eyes as he saw who the sortee actually was. "Uh... Older Brother."

He had heard about Total Eclipse of the Heart!

That has crossed Yuuri's mind as well. Maybe Gwendal has heard about the appearance of Yuuri's Maou form at Hogwarts, somehow? Maybe he's come to ... scold Yuuri? Make him do paperwork? Assess the damage that Yuuri has caused to Hogwarts' foundation in flooding it with water maryoku?

"No, we are on Earth but not anywhere near my home," he is starting to reply to Gwendal, when Wolfram bursts into the room. And for once, Yuuri is actually relieved by Wolfram's sudden arrival.

"Wolfram, isn't it great? Gwendal is here!" Yuuri's eyes squinch up in a happy way, and he smiles a rather sheepish smile. It is a good thing Gwendal is here, isn't it ... ? I hope ... ?

"That's a very charming stuffed bear you've made!" The Hat was referring to the knitted kitten.

"It's a cat," Gwendal replied as dryly as possible before turning to see he was being addressed by a pile of rags.

A floating pile of rags, no less! Or, rather, a very crumply and large Hat, floating in the air beside Gwendal.

"There must be some weird-looking cats where you come from!" the Hat continued, unperturbed. "Well, if you promise to knit me a hat, I will Sort you!"

Gwendal's fingers itched to knit. "If you will supply yarn and needles, I will knit you whatever you want," he replied, remembering Yuri's advice, for all the ill it would probably do him.
