Owls to Molly Walker and Noah Bennet

Nov 14, 2007 22:33

It had been quite some time since Mohinder had gotten to Hogwarts, and he realized he was really hopelessly out of touch with the few people he knew from before. It was pretty sad when the person he'd spent the most time with was Sylar of all people. Finally, he decided to fix it and send off a few owls.

Mohinder,

What kind of job did you get? And since when do we have a lab?

I've been feeling pretty good. I read a lot--the library here is HUGE--and I used to walk in the woods until it got too cold. One of the house elves helped me order a wand from a catallog catalogue, and I learned how to cast stunning spells and stuff. I'm not very good at them yet, which is why I went out in the woods where I wouldn't hurt anything if I missed. I kind of miss a lot.

Where do you work? And do you need help? I could help, unless you need someone to do a lot of math or something.

sincerely,
Molly

Molly,

I'm so glad to hear you're well. And learning Stunning spells is an excellent idea. I should do that too. Perhaps you can show me sometime?

I'm Professor Maturin's assistant now -- he's the Potions professor, if you don't know him -- so I've been spending a lot of time in the potions laboratory. Of course you can come and help! Actually, we really should be holding a class soon...

Yours,
Mohinder

Mohinder,

Sure, I could do that. We'd have to do it outside somewhere, though, because they can kind of blow stuff up if you do them wrong.

Potions? Is that kind of like kemi cemi chemistry? We made a volcano once in Science by putting baking soda and vinegar together. This is probably a lot more complicated though, isn't it? I don't think I've ever met Professor Maturin before, but if you work for him he must be pretty nice. Can I help you make up a class?

sincerely,
Molly

Molly,

That's all right. It's cold out now, but I'm sure I can find a warming spell of some kind. Or we can wear lots of scarves sweaters, and then come inside and have some tea.

Potions is very much like chemistry, yes. I've never heard of making a volcano, though. How do you make a volcano from baking soda and vinegar?

[The second half of the note is written in a different shade of ink, and has a few suspicious stains on it.]

Oh, I think I see.

Of course you can help us with a class! You obviously have some very good ideas.

Yours,
Mohinder

The map Mohinder had given her was easy enough to follow, even if the dungeons really were a little creepy. It didn't take her long to get there--Molly had figured out all the trick staircases and passages a few months ago--and she knocked on the door and stuck her head in.

"Mohinder?" she called, blinking at the lab. It was like something out of a book--candles and cool old-fashioned stuff mixed in with modern things like microscopes. There were also, she noticed, a few scorch-marks on the walls. Awesome.

Mohinder hadn't quite realized that Molly had meant she was coming over at that very moment, so he wasn't entirely prepared. When she came in, he was at the very back of the room, halfway buried in a book on charms. Hearing her voice echo off the walls, though, he turned, and got to his feet when he saw her. "Molly!" He beamed. "Hello!"

Carefully marking his place, he closed the book, then crossed the lab to her. He knelt to offer her a hug. "So, welcome to the Potions lab. What do you think?"

Molly hugged him back, hard. "It's so cool," she said, leaning back to grin at him. "This is where you work? It's so much awesomer than a science lab." She knew 'awesomer' wasn't really a word, but it was the only description that fit. Not just awesome, but awseomer.

She looked around, at the tables cluttered with things she definitely couldn't name. It smelled like herbs, and chemicals, and a little like damp dirt--almost like a greenhouse. She saw the remains of Mohinder's vinegar-and-baking-soda experiment, too, and laughed. "You know," she said, pointing, "if you put that in a bottle and shake it up, it'll explode."

Hey, Molly was a kid. Kids like explosions. It's almost a prerequisite for the job.

Mohinder couldn't help but laugh. "Well, thank you. I'm glad you think this is an improvement." In a way, he had to agree. He'd been fond of his old lab, but he couldn't make things fly and sing there. That made this place, as Molly put it, much awesomer.

He straightened up, following her pointing finger to the exploded, as-yet-untidied mess, and flashed her a rueful, sheepish grin. "I think I may have done enough exploding for one day, don't you think?"

Now that she was here? No, probably not.

Dr. Suresh,

Everything is fine unless you count an annoying old friend showing up and engaging in periodic fistfights. I've been laying low and haven't heard anything good or bad about "them."

I've honestly been avoiding Molly. With Sylar here as well she has enough to fear without throwing me into the mix.

How have you been coping with the madness enjoying your stay here? I assume that you've been keeping busy. If I can assist you in some way, please contact me and I will see what I can do.

Sincerely,
Noah Bennet

Mr. Bennet,

That's good to hear except for that; anyone I know?

I don't understand. I had assumed you were taking care of her. Who's looking after her if you're not?

I've been mostly well, thank you. I was lost at sea for a while, but now I'm back and playing assistant to the Potions Master. I've got plenty of work to keep me busy.

Sincerely,
Mohinder Suresh

Dr. Suresh,

I doubt you'd be familiar with him.

I had assumed that you were looking after her. She did seem to depend on you back in New York. Have you been in contact with her? Should I go look for her?

...lost at sea. That sounds interesting, if not very, very strange and inconvenient. Congratulations on your new job.

Sincerely,
Noah Bennet

Mr. Bennet,

I thought perhaps you were talking about a mutual acquaintance of ours. One who has been in contact with me.

I owled her at the same time as I owled you, but that was the first I'd spoken to her since my arrival. She's coming to see me, actually. Luckily, she sounds all right, but it's unconscionable that no one has been taking care of her.

It was both strange and inconvenient. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Mohinder Suresh
