"Mrs. Reyes, are you sure I can't help -"

A thin girl with carrot-red hair and freckles turns around, school uniform skirt swirling around as she does. She's startled to find a stone wall behind her rather than the kitchen door she was expecting.

"Oh brother. C'mon, I didn't even pick up a weird alien artifact this time or anything!" She walks ( Read more... )

"These CDs that you have. In comparison to Dio, how are they?"

This was going to be tricky. He settled down before giving his answer. "Understand your feelings you should, but let yourself be controlled by them you should not. If angry with her you remain, then impossible healing will be."

"That's what my aikido teacher always tells me. That I need to control my temper, and not let it control me. But this isn't a minor offense I can just blow off. I mean, she's hurt so many people over the years. They've got to figure into it somehow too, what's between my aunt and me - don't they?"

"Forgotten they should not be," he said, "but impede forgiveness this should not. Had a student I once did, and fall to the Dark Side he did. Murdered his bretherin, and billions more. Taught his son later, I did. Lost hope, I had. But not the son. Redeem his father, he was determined to, and he did. Lost sight of the murdered billions, he did not. Fought for the other side, he did. But love his father, he did as well."

"Then he's a better man than I am," Brenda sighed. "'Cause, before I found out I'd've fought for my aunt without a second thought. But this kind of fighting for her - I don't have the first clue how to go about it. For one thing, I can't see her ever admitting she was wrong, about anything."

"Confronted her about this, have you? If understand what is at stake she does, easier it may be."

"...not yet. Haven't trusted myself to face her yet." She shrugged. "I've been staying with friends the last few days. I've let her know through third parties that I'm safe, but that's all."

((Sorry, I didn't seem to get the notification for this!))

"Speak with her, you should. Better it is to get all of your thoughts in the open than hidden away to keep them. If afraid of her you are, perhaps speak in a public place you should?" He gnawed on his cane again, then continued speaking. "If make peace with her and encourage change you truly wish, confront her you should. Any thought to her reasons have you given, hmm?"

((No problem, app's still going strong.))

"...Not really," she admitted. "I mean, who doesn't want to be rich and powerful? But, most people, there are lines. I'm not sure where the lines she won't cross are, or if she even has any."

"Very seductive are wealth and power," Yoda agreed. They weren't so much his thing, but he'd seen people fight and die for them. Or have others fight and die for them, as the case sometimes was. "And know for certain you will not, without communication. Very important communication is; without it, what have we?"

"Peace and quiet?" she muttered. "No, really, I know that. There was a really hard time I had last year - I spent some time in hospital, my Dad died, I changed schools so I hardly ever saw my friend Paco, our friend Jaime was missing - I felt so alone, and there wasn't really anyone I could talk about it with. Bad times."

His ears twitched at the "peace and quiet" comment. "Sorry for your loss, I am," he said, holding a wrinkled green hand out to pat her comfortingly. "But gotten through it admirably, you seem to have done. Very strong, you must be."

She shrugged, accepting the pat. "Getting through things's what I do, always has been. Plus, there was Tia Amparo, and Jaime came back so I had both my 'brothers' again - they helped me be strong. So I help them back, you know?"

"A good family, this sounds like to me." A bit dysfunctional, true, but what family wasn't?

Brenda nodded. "Better'n the one I started out with, that's for sure. Thanks."

"Welcome, you are. If ever you wish to talk, all ears am I. Owl Yoda, you can." And with that, he was off to his room to give the Alanis CD a listen.
