Semi-Open RP: Peter goes looking for a job (As a break from being Emo)

Aug 05, 2007 15:37

There comes a certain time in every mans life when he decides that he needs a little something more to do. Since certain happenings of a radioactive nature, and trying to keep the rest of the castle safe from Sylar, only to end up with a pole through his head, Peter wanted something else. Something normal. Something that wasn't running around ( Read more... )

The first question was not answered, in favor of listening to Carla talk about the Hospital Wing and the doctors who worked here. Peter laughed briefly at the mention of one who thought he was a god. "Good to know that doctors don't change, even if they do work in a castle for teaching magic," he smirked slightly.

Grabbing a chair and dragging it over next to the other patient Carla had said needed checking, Peter sat down and started taking his vitals. The poor guy looked like he was having fever dreams, and for a moment Peter really wished he'd picked up something useful, like the ability to heal other people. That would go a lot further towards saving the world than anything else he could do.

He should probably answer Carla's question about the 'break', but Peter really just wanted to shove a lot of what had happened recently under the rug. It was diversion time ( ... )

Though he grimaced faintly at the idea of toenails being in a potion, Peter simply grabbed instrument tray and the hypodermics, setting them down on a table near Carla. Still curious about 'magic potions' in general, he tried not to look too eager at getting to watch magical medicine in practice.

"She must really be dedicated to her work, if she can talk at length about it," Peter commented, trying to go with the optimist route. He didn't know if it would last after being treated to said lecture, though.

Okay, that was either adorable or just plain stupid. Either way, she laughed. "Yeah, she's committed all right. She's also the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. She'll go on and on about that, too." Picking up a tourniquet, she wrapped it carefully around Logan's arm - the boy was sleeping, now, and she didn't want to wake him - and then filled the needle with the required amount of the potion. With the easy grace of someone who had done this a thousand times, she injected it into Logan's arm ( ... )

"Good to hear," Peter half-smiled, giving Carla a conspiring wink when she mentioned that she'd deny ever saying Lily was good at her job. He wouldn't tell a soul - gossip amongst nurses was a sacred thing, really.

And learning a lot was always a good thing, especially when it would go a long way with helping people here. Taking the needle from Carla with a nod, Peter started attending the next patient - the bearded old man - going through the motions of trying the tourniquet and injecting the potion in a practiced move.

"So, ten years," Peter spoke up while untying the tourniquet, looking curiously at Carla. "Were there ever times when you just wanted to give up? I mean... I love this job, but I can't help but think I'll start hating people after a few years," he grinned ruefully. "How do you do it?"

Considering it for a moment, an approving nod towards Peter's work, Carla breathed out a soft laugh and shrugged. "I don't know." Sitting down on the edge of the bed, pulling up Santa's chart and fiddling with the quill, she said, "When I was little, my grandmother used to have these 'spells'. Fainting and whatnot. Well, one day she had one in a grocery store. And I remember this guy strode in, and he said 'Stand back, everyone'. And they did. You have to understand, in my family? No one listed to each other. Ever. I asked my aunt, who was that guy? And she says, 'He's a doctorGiving Peter a rueful little smile, Carla lifted one shoulder, up and down, as if giving him permission to laugh at her. "Right then, I knew that's what I wanted to be. Well, I didn't have the money to go to medical school. So I decided to become a nurse. I just...love helping people. And a lot of days it's tough, you know? And I'm not really sure why I'm doing it. But then one patient will pull through even though you didn't think they would ( ... )
