Say hi to Pingu from "Pingu"!

Jul 29, 2007 18:56

A miniature Emperor penguin waddled into the sorting room, a fishing rod over his shoulder and a bucket of seaweed swinging from his fin. He was Exploring, and his eyes were alight with Discovery of a Strange New Place! ...Or, if not quite alight, at least round as dinner-plates and spinning quite impressively.

Pingu flattened himself against the ( Read more... )

"Oh, hey, little guy!" Homestar called, sauntering in to the Sorting Room. "So are you new? It's a great place; you'll love it here." He nodded sagely and squinted down at the application.

"I only just got here! I've never been here before. I live over--" He waved one fin excitedly in the direction he'd come, and looked at Homestar with wider than usual eyes.

"Are you a snowman?"

"No, but I was popcorn for a while," he explained. "Do you like melonade?"

"I don't know," said Pingu, who'd never had a melon, let alone a drink formulated from it. "Can I try some?"

Ian laughed. "I believe you're on to something there. Having been a teacher once or twice myself. Do you go to school at home?"

"I do," said Pingu, pleased. "My sister doesn't but I'm older than her. So she can't write, but I can spell." He stared up at the man. "You haven't been a teacher at my school, though, my teacher's a penguin like everyone else."

"No, I've taught at human schools. I'd remember having a penguin in class, I think." He squatted so Pingu wouldn't have to look up as far. "You know this is a school too, don't you?"

"It doesn't look like a school," said Pingu, confused. "It's all made of rock, and there's no blackboard.""It doesn't look like a school," said Pingu, confused. "It's all made of rock, and there's no blackboard."

A slow, steady rumble echoes through the castle with each foot fall from the towering king of monsters.

A long, loud roar cuts clear through the air signifying its presence.

A lone, yellow eye peeks through the window at the sorting taking place inside.

It gave a short, questioning 'huff' and stood, awaiting a response.

At the roar, Pingu dropped his rod in fright and flattened himself to the floor again with an avian little shriek. He took one look at the eye, and quickly rolled underneath the relative safety of the table.

He trembled there, watching the eye.

It gave a short huff as it watched the small bird with interest.

A low, rumbling sound echoed through the school was simply it making conversation.

A penguin! This might go down as the happiest day of Osaka's life! She's grinning happily as she approaches him. "Can I pet you?"

She's happy to see him! He... has no idea who she is, but this is immaterial when it comes to glee! ...Or something. In any case, Pingu claps his fins and gives her a big ol' penguin smile. "Yes! What's petting?"

She holds out her hand towards him. "You know, it's... patting you on the head, and I think it's supposed to feel good. I know cats and dogs like it, maybe penguins do too."

"My mummy pats me on the head when I'm upset," said Pingu happily. So, yes, penguins did like it! He certainly wasn't going to stop her, if she wanted to.

While the drawings were all masterfully done, Steph's personal favorite was the answer to the Ravenclaw question. "You mind making me a copy of the happy threesome? I've got a friend who'd love it!"

George's room? So getting new wallpaper.

Don't you just know it! Pingu was a veritable master of the arts. Well, insofar as they were loud and bold and primary-coloured.

"Okay!" he said, overjoyed at the recognition of his aforementioned artistic talents. He grabbed one of the empty applications and started drawing on the back, as neatly as he could with the blotty quill pen.

"I'm Pingu!" he added brightly. "Who are you?"

Yay! Steph carefully pocked the drawing. She had Plans for that little piece of paper.

"I'm Steph! And I'm voting you into Gryffindor, if that's okay." You never knew when an artistic penguin would come in useful.

"You have a nice name." Pingu blinked up at her curiously. "Okay! I want to be in Gryffindor! What is Gryffindor?"
