Last time Slartibartfast had done one of these, he'd carried everybody to Magrathea in an old converted van. This time, there were so many people going, he'd had his ship the
Starship Bistromath delivered, and it now sat idling on the lawn. Irrational behavior wasn't going to get them to Magrathea in anything

Eventually, he decided on hoping against hope that his partner would wait and he could find him (or her; hard to tell with a name like "Chance") instead. If worst came to worst they'd be the only two people left when everyone else had paired off.

-- or can you? Her shoe's untied, and when she kneels to re-tie it with a grumble, she sees a little toy spaceman. In a spacesuit. Who appears to be alive.
"Um. You wouldn't be Buzz Lightyear, would you?"

Suddenly he spotted him, looking about himself, his neck craned upward slightly to try to see over and around the taller people around him.
"John!" he called, waving a hand. "Over here, boy."

John looked up, frowning as he noticed his field trip partner calling out to him. He turned a bit too quickly, though, and felt his crutches get caught on something. He stumbled heavily and winced audibly as a slice of pain arced through both legs, threatening to send him back to the hospital wing. There was no way he was going to put himself in Mr. Maturin's company again if he could help it. He breathed deeply, willing himself not to fall over and lifted his newly castless (but no less useless) right hand to attempt to wave Older!John closer. It was going to be a bit before he could move without falling and he hoped Older!John was patient enough to wait.

"Hm." With a sigh, John strode over to the young man. On closer inspection, he didn't look like he was doing too well. John coughed and glanced around awkwardly.
"You, uh, gonna be able to make it through this trip?"

And so, instead, she began to mingle in hopes of finding him.

"Excuse me," he asked Lain (he of course did not KNOW it was Lain), "but are you two twins?"

"She's an annoying and disturbing duplicate of myself." She quickly responded, not really wanting to go into details.
"Although she mostly harmless now, I made sure of it.
Do you mind me asking who you are? I'm Lain." She gave a slight bow out of habit.
"Do you know who you're paired with?"
Reply
"Lain? Well that's convienent, I'm Archie. No, you don't need to bow."

She stood for a moment looking around before she headed into the crowd. She saw Lain also walking around but decided she'd speak to her later least she tempted another banishment.

He was so not good with people. Brice looked around the crowd, wondering who this Lain of the Wired was and how the heck he was supposed to recognise her. (Him? He had no idea.) Well, this'd be interesting... The angel sighed and pushed up his shades on his head, looking around. A hint,
just a hint... Okay, nothing. Finally he gave up, found a piece of parchment, and scrawled his name on it, before attaching it to his jacket.
Worth a shot. He looked stupid, but he'd rather have that than assault random strangers and ask them if they were this... Lain.
He hung around sort of casually near a young girl, hoping that someone would approach him.

Lain looked around at all the assorted people, may had already gotten into pairs and the few that remained still looked independent of the name 'Brice', unless it was pinned to their jacket.
"Hello, Brice De Winter?
Or are you just minding his jacket?"
She offered her hand.
"I'm the omnipresent Lain" She started to grin.
((Mind if she notices you’re an angel? She's a goddess, although she hasn't got much power at the moment))

Brice raised both eyebrows at the girl. Omnipresent? Oookay. He shook the hand, a corner of his mouth twitching into a smile.
"Yeah, I'm Brice. Nice to meet you, all that. Omnipresent, huh? How's that working out for you?"
Okay, so he had his partner. Good. Now it was just getting on the starship thing, and getting the field trip itself over with. No problem at all.
