Jenga Aftermath (aka The Emo Kids Continue to Act the Fool)

Mar 04, 2007 22:31

((Forward dated just a wee bit, so that it's two full days since the Jenga game of snogging and emo.))

Sirius hadn't spoken to Lily for two days. Actually, he hadn't even left his room for two days. He had known that no good would come of playing Jenga with Lily - he had even warned her - but he had never imagined that it would lead to this.

If only she had just let him take the damn drink instead of goading him to kiss her. But no, she had taken it away and then insisted that he follow through on the dare. If only he had walked out instead of listening to that. If only...

It was no use. He had kissed her, and now there was no way she didn't know how she felt, because no bloke kisses a girl like that unless he really really likes her - or is just trying to have it off with her. Either way was equally unfavourable.

But those two days had been rough. Sirius had spent most of them drunk. When his alcoholic stupor faded, he found himself glad that Harry was busy and not around to wonder what had come over his godfather. Most of the time, Sirius just felt numb, and the alcohol helped keep things that way.

But one could only stay drunk for so long, and so after two days, Sirius forced himself to shower and had a house-elf bring him some food. And when his stomach settled down, he picked up a quill and reluctantly wrote a letter in the hopes that he could salvage some part of his friendship with the girl he loved. It wasn't that he thought she would hate him for what had happened, but rather that he knew everything was going to change now, and he dreaded seeing her again, knowing that things would be awkward and formal from now on. She would start to be careful about the things she said and the way she touched him, not wanting to give him the wrong idea about their relationship any more. They'd still be close - at least, he hoped so - but things would be different. Sirius could only hope his letter would lessen those differences, at least somewhat. His heart was almost impossibly heavy as he sent the owl off.

Owl to Lily, heavily warded:

Lily,

I'm sorry about what happened in Homsar's office. It will NEVER happen again.

-Sirius
