What are social directors?
Social directors are a group of four HiHers, one from each house, who host fun, social activities throughout Hogsmeade. They work to get everyone involved, providing a place for members of all houses to interact and have fun without the distraction of house points. They also act as Hogsmeade ambassadors to their house, distributing information to their common room and helping their housemates get ready for the weekend.

Can I sign up to be a social director?
YES! Any member of HiH can be a social director! It doesn't matter how long you've been a member or whether you hold leadership positions. All that's required is enthusiasm and a desire to make Hogsmeade a fun, hopping place for all houses. However, only one social director is chosen for each house, so you will need to apply and be selected for the position.

How do I apply to be a social director?
A signup post will go up at hogsmeadewkends especially for social directors, usually 2-3 weeks before each Hogsmeade. Check the post for any special information and signup with your name/house and any additional required information. Currently, this information includes submitting ONE idea for a social activity and confirming that you've read this FAQ.

I'd like to be a social director, but I don't know what sort of posts to do. Can I still participate?
Go ahead and signup! Your Mayors will help you out along the way by offering suggestions for activities and by helping fine-tune your own ideas. You will also be given access to a community specifically for social directors (hh_socialdirect) which will allow you to get inspiration from past activities.

Do I get points for being a social director?
YES. Social Directors can earn a maximum of 30 points. You are allowed (encouraged) to go beyond these limits. Points are determined based on the following scale:• 5 points for posting the Hogsmeade information to their Common Room
• 5 points per Simple social activity post
• 7 points per Medium social activity post
• 10 points per Complex social activity post

What kinds of tasks am I supposed to do as a social director?
You may earn your social director points by performing the following tasks. After each task is the number of times that task may be repeated for points. The limits on posting apply only for earning points. You absolutely can post as many of each type as you'd like and just not get points for it.

  • Hogsmeade Ambassador to your house repeatable ONE time
In the week PRIOR to Hogsmeade, you will be provided with information to pass along to your common room, such as reminders about Hogsmeade membership, a schedule of activities, and special announcements. You must make a minimum of one post to your common room passing along this information in order to receive points for this task, but are encouraged to go beyond that to get your house excited and ready for Hogsmeade. You are also asked to answer questions and refer any you're not sure of to the appropriate mod.

  • Simple Activity repeatable THREE times
A simple activity is a post that does not require much advanced planning and requires little to no maintenance during Hogsmeade. Examples would be icon conversations, "I Never," or gif wars. These are absolutely encouraged during Hogsmeade, by any member, but the social director position is designed to provide activities that would not otherwise be possible.

  • Medium Activity NO LIMIT on times repeatable
A medium activity requires advanced planning and some maintenance during Hogsmeade. Examples would be a "Would You Rather" game for which you have prepared multiple questions with pictures or a discussion topic that you actively keep going by commenting and responding to participants.

  • Complex Activity NO LIMIT on times repeatable
A complex activity requires advanced planning and significant maintenance during Hogsmeade, in the form of responding with correct answers, assigning teams or prompts, or tallying results. Examples would be Scattergories, 20 Questions or a Fandom Showdown.

I'm not sure what category my idea falls under. What do I do?
Have no fear. There will be a post at hh_socialdirect specifically for the social directors to discuss their ideas and get feedback from the mayors. Right before the weekend, the mayors will also post a tentative list of social director posts, and confirm with you directly regarding whether or not you've planned enough things of the right complexity to earn full points.

How should I tag my posts?
For social director posts, you should be using ONLY the following tags. Bold tags are those you will need most often. Italic tags might be necessary for some activities, but you probably won't need to use them often.

  • "#weekend: social director post" - This is what the mayors use to count your posts at Hogsmeade, so if you forget to use it, you won't receive points for your posts. For your ambassador posts in your common rooms, please give us a link so we can double-check it.
  • "#weekend: social post" - Please use this tag if your post is an open-ended activity that members can participate in all weekend.
  • "#weekend: reminder" - Activity or deadline reminder, reminder that additional parts have been posted, deadline or voting extensions, call for more votes
  • "#weekend: voting" - Separate voting or polling post, if required.
  • "#weekend: results" - Final results for party games, if given in a separate post.

Anything else I should include in my posts?
If your party game includes deadlines, please give a SPECIFIC time for that deadline, in UTC (required) and in your local time zone (preferred). (The time zone converter on the System will help with this.) Hogsmeade runs on a tight schedule, and this applies to some party games as well.

When should I post my activity? How long should I run it for?
Please try to spread your activity posts out as much as possible, and if there is a day you will be completely unavailable, let your fellow social directors know at the social director community, so that they can help make sure there will still be activities going on at that time. There is no guideline for run times on party games, so whatever is appropriate to your activity will work.

The mayors will ask you before the weekend begins roughly when you are planning to post so they can ensure posts are spread out over the weekend. It's generally a flexible process but do not be surprised if, if everyone wants to post everything Friday Night, they ask for some adjustments to those plans.

Ack! Something's come up and I can't fulfill my duties! What do I do?
Let us know as soon as possible, and we can reopen the position. Since several of the tasks require advance planning to complete, notify us as quickly as you can so someone else from your house has time to step in.

Ack! I didn't get selected as social director, but I have a great social post idea! Can I still post?
YES. Social posting is available to all members, so you may post any social activities you like. As a member, you may use any of the tags listed in this FAQ except for the "social director post" tag, which is reserved for use only by the official social directors.

Comments are screened, if you have any further questions. :D
