More on Van Halen

A few weeks ago, it was announced that the Van Halen reunion with David Lee Roth is back on. I’m not sure how I feel about this. At the time it was first announced I was all for it, I mean anything to get Dave and Eddie back on the same stage together, right? Well, tickets have been on-sale for a few weeks now and I haven’t had the slightest urge ( Read more... )

Eh, if they really do play shows you know they're going to play the hits. They can't not. Every 4 or 5 songs they'll play a new one and it will be awful and everyone will go to the concessions for a beer.
The problem is that you KNOW it's going to be at least $50 a ticket.

Perhaps I am subconsciously reacting to what I'm sure will be outrageous ticket prices. I'm not sure why, but I guess I'd feel less ripped off if Michael Anthony was there. I dunno why.

Because of the background vocals and the Jack Daniels bass

The Jack Daniels bass is awesome. Michael Anthony really is the Van Halen "secret weapon". I'm sure that Wolfgang will be able to play the bass lines just fine. Anthony's bass work is simple, but extremely effective. I don't know if there is a better example of a bassist doing what's best for the songs than what he does with Van Halen.

MA got excluded after vocalizing money issues, ie. not getting paid what he thought he should. they weren't happy with it, so he went to camp Hagar. yeah, now you the the spawn of EVH playing bass. no thanks.

That the Van Halen brothers should be squabbling over money at this point in their careers is even more sickening.

How much fucking cash do they need? Go play a rock show!

They are advertising the Indianapolis show on right wing AM Talk radio. Oh, the audience. And the ad costs going into ticket sales alone would piss me off.

I saw about 5 minutes of Van Hagar at the Monsters of Rock Houston show (1988?). We stayed because we felt bad for them, after everyone ran for the post-Metallica doors.

I actually don't hate Van Hagar all that much. Perhaps its because I more of less grew up with Van Hagar as the active Van Halen outfit. I still like a lot of the songs from that era, but more in the same way that I like some Journey songs.

In retrospect Van Halen 1976 - 1984 was so completely different from Van Hagar that its hard to believe that it was the same people more or less.

Age check: the first CD I bought was VH-1 (Then Psychocandy), so Van Hagar was an option for 3+ hours of Monsterous Rock.
