I was looking out the windows on the old sleeping porch today when my mom and I were moving 9 year old storage. Barren trees against a watercolor sky are beautiful, but not warm-smiled like summer foliage. Bright colors and unfiltered sunshine, or deep living indigo night skys with a van gogh moon claim more of beauty than white ice and delicate ( Read more... )

I tend to find that people who behave the same way have an attractive elegance to them as well. It's mother nature's equivalent to true confidence, the kind that exists whether anyone else is there to observe it or not.

Those share a lot with winter days. The sparse nature of the surroundings, the muted colors, the almost tangible silence (even in a picture). A winter night's sky is life at its most peaceful.

I agree. I'm so envious of those aloof and sophisticated people. I wish I didn't care. Though I wonder if they do, really.
