They should be in jail. Unfortunately we have a belief in this country that children are property and parents can basically do what they want with/to them. It amazes me that people still think intimidation and pain are the best ways to raise children. No wonder we have so many alcoholics and drug addicts in this country!

How I wish it were a joke. If my library has the book I'm going to check it out and "loss" it. I'll gladly pay for the book to keep other parents from reading it and doing what it says.

It is insane. I hate that these people homeschool. By homeschooling my son am I somehow associated with people like this? It makes me ill.

There are a lot of public school teachers in my husband's family. No system is fool proof, but my sister-in-law has told me when we've discussed things like this that you can get in trouble as a teacher if you don't report it. Fanatics of various stripes sometimes use homeschooling to keep their actions hidden and/or their children from being affected by the outside world that they distrust ( ... )

I don't think they abuse to the point where it would be noticed by a teacher, that usually involves black eyes or huge bruises, but I'm sure they homeschool to keep absolute control over their kids. It bothers me that by homeschooling I am in any way going to be associated with people like that. Luckily, they are the minority in homeschooling, but still ( ... )

I'm glad there are ways for homeschoolers as a group to speak out against things like this ( ... )
