Ugh, I'm worried

Everyone remember my stray cat that I feed and take in when it is really cold out? I took him to Petco to get his shots yesterday, figuring I'd better at least get the rabies one to keep us all safe. I told the vet and the tech that he was a stray and wild so they needed to be careful. Long story short, they weren't careful enough and the vet ( Read more... )

Had a similar situation with a patient who got bit by a barn cat...if yu can keep him in your garage with no way to escape for ten days, that counts.

Sigh, they should have mentioned the whole quarantine thing at Petco. Grrrrr.

I guess I can try to grab him next time he comes by and keep him in the basement. How are they even going to know? Yes, they should have told me. Even the woman who called last night didn't say I HAD to have him in quarantine. I'm just scared they are going to send someone to come get him.

I hope it works out. Petco should have told you!

We've taken in two strays that have showed up at our house in the Adirondacks. One is still with us. The other didn't get on with the other cats, but fell in love with a friend's boyfriend at first sight. His cat had died a year or two before and he was ready to love again (as it were). So he went to live with him. They've lived happily ever after.

They should have told me I agree. We've had him in the basement for 3 days now. He seems to be enjoying it down there. Today I tried to get him to come up and go outside for a bit and he refused. I fear Mark won't be too happy if this cat decides he wants to live indoors all the time!

It sounds like Petco may have gotten you into a new problem. One of our foundlings refused to go outdoors unless both of us were there at the same time. He didn't want to take the chance that we'd close him out. And a basement!...Those are full of all kinds of interesting hiding places. To a cat it's probably heaven. On your side, if you've got any mice it might work out.

He seems to be in heaven down there. Since it is snowing tonight I decided to leave him in for one more day. Tomorrow I'm going to get him out. I can do it, I'll just have to get more aggressive about it. I wish he could live indoors full time but right now he can't because of the dog, unless he wants to live only in the basement. Seems to me like he would get bored and lonely before too long. At least outside he has stuff to do and when we let him in the dogs are out so he can get petting. He seems a little sore from wrestling with the vet so I don't mind giving him the time to recover right now.
