I'm a real writer now

I got my first official rejection yesterday. I opened the envelope (yep, they mailed it to me), read it and said shit or something to that effect. My son asked me what was wrong. I told him that the people didn't want Turtle's Bedtime Walk, a kids bedtime story I wrote. Logan loves the story, so he asked why they didn't want it? I told him I ( Read more... )

Awwww. :-( I'm sorry you got a rejection letter--those are never fun, for any reason. I hope you'll keep faith, and send it out to the different magazines--there's a ton of good magazines for kids, so I'm sure you'll find lots of different possibilities. Good luck!

If you know of any you would recommend I'd love to hear. I know of the big ones like Highlights and Ladybug, but need to do some research to find others.

I have a copy of Children's Writer's Market, and I will be looking through it. I was just thinking Melissa may have some added insight being a children's librarian! Thanks for the links, I will check them out. I thought as long as I completely references a quote it was ok to use it. I'll have to look into that! All the magazines say they want you to have quotes from experts in your articles and many of them (the experts) are too busy to grant interviews to everyone writing an article. This is a big reason I haven't submitted anything to paying magazines yet, I don't want to deal with the trying to interview the experts. They've already said it in their book, why do I have to bug them in person to get them to say it again? It doesn't make sense to me, but it may be something the magazines will make me do. I guess we will see.
