movie complaint

Buckle up... it's a history-in-movies rant.

I just watched the trailer for Flyboys, a coming-soon flick about the Lafayette Escadrille (American volunteer pilots who flew for France in WWI before the US officially joined the war). I figured "hey, that might be pretty neat!" Then I saw combat scenes in the trailer ( Read more... )

Happy to help.

All kidding aside, though, a general comment: I'm with you on accuracy in media. There's nothing that takes me out of a good movie or TV show than a glaring inaccuracy. If there's some small technical glitch or mistake, fine -- but when it's something big, the "OH BULLSHIT" factor takes me right out of the moment and makes it really hard to enjoy the movie. Millions and millions of dollars to make a movie, at least do some Googling, guys.

Ditto. When the suspension of disbelief fails, an eye roll is usually triggered. I am completely on board with you on this one. Just last night I saw The Closer and the suspension of disbelief failed BIG time. My eyes rolled so much I got dizzy and fell off the couch. If I go to see this movie, . . . I'll need to get strapped in.

Ok, so you know I kinda twitch when I see historical movies with you and Mike, but I gotta agree with you on this one. Even *I* knew there was only one red plane. I learned that from Snoopy. *duck*

LOL! I actually almost mentioned that people know the Red Baron 'cuz of Snoopy, but then I forgot. :-) Heck, that's how I first learned about him, too!

I had the same feeling when I saw previews of "Snakes on a Plane". I mean, one adder, fine. But a whole SQUADRON of adders?? PLEASE.

Yeah, but think of all the mathematical possibilities with a whole squadron of adders. It's like a reptilian supercomputer!

*ducking now*

And amazingly enough, there's a justification for it in the movie. Not a great one, mind you, but there is one.

However, there is one other aviation-related issue in the movie that got to me - I don't want to reveal it here (for fear you guys may ever see SoaP) but I think it's inaccurate. Damn it, see the movie so I can ask you two aviation geekballs!
