Here is the discussion post for "Unfinished Business" (Episode 3.09). Even though this has been discussed a bit in sophinisba's journal, it has plenty more fodder for discussion and claudia603 is about to watch it, I think.

This post is for the Second Season group -- claudia603 and sophinisba. As for all posts like this, everyone is welcome to join in and comment, discuss, ask questions ( Read more... )

It was intense, wasn't it! Anything to do with New Caprica is pretty heavy stuff.

I feel pretty much the same as you do with everything you said. Regarding Starbuck and Apollo, and being VERY vague here (so as not to give any spoilers), it becomes even more meaningful once we see the finale which actually informs this episode quite a bit.

There. I think that's sufficiently vague!

I really hope that Claudia liked this episode better than I did! :D I hate watching boxing so much! It is so disgusting and I can't even feel bad for the people that are getting hit because, dude, they are stupidly choosing to do this stupid disgusting thing! (Ugh, the mouthguards and the spitting blood and the a;lsdjfa;slkdj!!!)

That said, I agree with gamerchick on the thread at my journal that Laura telling Adama he was being stupid and then turning into his badass boxing coach. And I agree with Mews that is was pretty neat that they had a guy fighting a girl and they were totally well matched and both awesome. Also showing how Adama can't have buddies, sure, all that's good ( ... )

You know, the first time I saw this episode, I hated it, because I hate boxing too! I dismissed it from my mind and went on to enjoy the rest of the series ( ... )

The fact that you didn't like this episode at first either makes me feel better about my reaction to it. Maybe I will also come to love it later after I've seen more of the series. I did watch the longer version. I'm not sure if that was the right choice or not but I didn't want to watch it twice, so. :)

I suggest that you watch it again when you've finished the entire series, because there is actually something later on that may shed some light (for good or for bad, I ain't telling!) on the Quadrangle stuff. Or it may not. A lot of it might be in the eye of the beholder.

SOOOooo I just finished watching the episode! It's not one of my favorites and I sort of looked away during the actually hitting (This is why I couldn't enjoy Green Street Hooligans at all) and bleeding. But the flashbacks to New Caprica I really liked. I LOVED seeing a bit of New Caprica before everything got icky and the cylons came. I loved seeing people so hopeful ( ... )

I loved seeing people so hopeful.

I liked this and also that it was so sunny, and I liked the couple that was dancing real slow in the background of something else that I enjoyed less (some angle of the Quadrilateral I think but it coulda been Tyrol).

However I wondered about why the weather was so much nicer in the flashbacks that it had been just before the end of the occupation. Like I remember in that one episode, just before the Cylons arrived, Gaius Baltar was like, "These people are so ungrateful, all they do is complain about the weather." And Handsome Gaeta was like, "Well, it's hardly just the weather." And I was thinking maybe that would be explained at some point and it wasn't.

*grin*

I think the weather is a emotional short-form, so-to-speak--instead of having exposition going on to explain that New Caprica was uncomfortable to live on and that the occupation was nasty, they just made the weather show the greyness and despair. But in UB, the cylons hadn't come yet, so while life may have had problems, it was a picnic compared to later. So they were allowed to have some sunshine.

You know, it's funny, but the hitting and the blood didn't bother me at all. I think it's because it was all by choice. The people who put their dogtags into the box were ready to fight and ready to be beaten up. They had power over their situation. They wanted to participate. So when I saw the fighting, I may have been thinking "you'd never see me doing something dumb like that!" but I never felt uncomfortable about watching it. Mind you, I think boxing is an incredibly stupid sport which is why I didn't like the episode at first...

Now, if there is no choice, well, that's a whole different world for me! I feel VERY uncomfortable and I'd be right there with you, looking away! In fact, D (my artist friend--I've mentioned him to you before) knows by instinct to let me know when I can look at the screen again if there is some nastiness. Actually, he doesn't like it either... but can handle it better than I can.

but I think they should have lived honestly (be with the person they want to be).Yes. And I think that Lee was more ready to ( ... )
