I'm rather fond of Aiden Turner, myself, which is a surprise, because I was pissed when he replaced Guy Flanagan in Being Human after the pilot. Have you seen him with a beard yet?
*snort* I think you'd like Being Human (although they made it a little less dark when they made changes post-pilot), but the beard comment was actually about how he looks right now, in preparation for The Hobbit. *G*
I became a confirmed Aidan Turner fan with 'Desperate Romantics' which was downright funny as well as an intriguing insight into the Pre-Raphaelites. My initial thought about 'The Hobbit' (apart from at last!) is that if the production designers submerge the actors within the dwarf make-up and hair as they did for Gimli, then there may be less impetus to fpf fic..? Maybe.
there may be less impetus to fpf fic..? I'm curious about that too. I am assuming the folks who enjoy the hobbit characters may find themselves invested in the FPF side, but then, so much of The Hobbit itself is about dwarves, and that's always been an area people seem to be less invested in.
For myself, I'm probably going to end up being most interested in the events of the Appendices and the gap between The Hobbit and LotR. (Well, and Smaug.) Which, technically speaking, could include most of the LotR characters anyway, just pre-War of the Ring. ^_~
Dwarves don't tend to get a lot of love in FPF, do they? Mmmm. It will be interesting to see what PJ and company do with them.
My initial response is that I'll probably write more RPF than FPF, but then again, I thought that I'd write only/mostly FPF in LOTR too, and we all know how that worked out.
I had a point I was going to make, and then I was distracted by all the pretty. *g*
Oh! Now I remember: I'm still having a bit of trouble seeing Richard Armitage as Thorin (though I'm certain he'll do fine - he's a great actor), but Robert and Aidan (particularly since I saw the picture of him with the beard - thanks for posting it, caras_galadhon!) provoke "Oh yes, definitely" reactions. Interesting. :)
My pleasure! I seriously did not see how Aidan could be a dwarf until I saw the pictures of him with a beard. ^_^
I'm pretty excited about James Nesbitt being involved (Bofur), because I loved him in Jekyll, and I think Martin Freeman is the perfect non-Holm choice for Bilbo. (And I'm still crossing my fingers that they find a way to get Certain Members of the old cast back, at least for the second outing. *G*)
