Last year I did many free online courses via Futurelearn and Coursera and the same is planned this year. It's been a *long* ass time since I've spoken Dutch (mom is Dutch; lived there for a few years) but I've still got favourite songs/artists that I'd be more than happy to link YouTube videos to for you. :)

Yep, and most of them are excellent (one or two have absolutely sucked but can't really grumble when they're not costing anything! :) )

Dutch definitely is a weird mixture of English and German by way of Wales I think, judging by the amount of vowels they use.

Duolingo and Babbel seem quite similar - I just did the first bit of Dutch on Babbel - but Duolingo has more of a focus on speaking than Babbel seems to. And it's free so it seems quite a bit better than Babbel.

Hmmm, mixing Latin and Dutch... Veni vidi veroverd? ;)

Yeah, similar set up but Duolingo defintiely wins on the free front, tho now Babbel is emailing me with special offers, but one month free on top of lots of pricy paid months is still not too alluring, especially as I'm so hit and miss and magpie-like with my interests..

One free month is hardly worth it really. I didn't realise it was quite so expensive though, either £9 a month or £54 a year? That's quite a lot. And when it says it's supported by the European Regional Development Fund, makes you wonder why they need to charge so much! Especially when Duolingo can do exactly the same thing for free.

I had to Google for alea iacta is because I didn't recognise it and had no idea what it should be :-/ Et je Brute works though!

Yes, not sure what they're supporting except making lotsa money! And as you say Duolingo does it for free and there's other free resrouces around; i suppose its cheaper than Rosetta stone or something but that's a diffetnt format in any case.

Heh, sorry, perils of a history obsessed dad, he quotes that one a lot for some reason!
