Pssht, state, who cares about state? If the country goes first, maybe the states will follow.
Because- change! It's happening. It's actually happening, and it's possible, and that gives me such insane hope for this country that I never imagined being able to have.
I really do have to have hope, because I'm watching CNN, and they just named off all the wonderful anti-gay everything props that passed all over the country, and every one was a little kick in the stomach for me.
I have so much faith in Obama. I really hope he can inspire more change.
Ugh. That... nothing can bring me down quite at this moment, but that is one thing that I will never understand. Gay rights is kind of my hot button issue, and... grr.
But Obama's in the right place, and he's got the right attitude, and I do believe that that will affect the country. Hopefully in positive ways.
I live almost on the opposite side of the planet, and I've never taken the slightest interest in American politics (though I know it makes me a bad, lazy person, because whoever rules the USA does have an insane amount of power). This time, though...I feel like jumping up and down and yell "Long live America!!!". And that's a first, I assure you.
But this election- it feels like it's uniting people. All across the world, all this joy and love- pride for America and hope for the future, and that is so new. It's fantastic.
It's always difficult for me to express an opinion on political subjects because most of the times I consider myself not to be informed enough to give a valid opinion, but:
I've just been reading up about the election (haven't been near a telly or online since yesterday) and although I've always been sceptical about politics (my own country's as well as the US's) this just makes me happy for all of you - I keep my fingers crossed, that Obama will manage to keep his promises.
Political matters, whatever they are, certainly need to be taken with a grain of salt. Or an entire shaker. Whichever. And I think it is far too easy, at this moment, to try and cast Obama as some sort of flawless ideal. Which, of course, ridiculous, but still.
As far as beginnings to presidential terms go, I think the hope and the unity he's inspired not only in Americans, but all over the world, is a damn good place to start.

Well, it has. And I couldn't be fucking happier or more amazed!
Now, if I didn't live in such a giant epic fail of a state...:(
