Thorin/Bilbo Sing

All the dwarves seem to be able to sing quite well, but Bilbo doesn't sing at all!
So how about a fic where Bilbo has a melodic voice and ability to sing, which caused him to get taunted when he was young, hence he doesn't sing anymore.
Maybe the Dwarves asks him to join him and despite his reluctance does so, and manages to surprise them all.
Awesome if there's a duet between Thorin and Bilbo in the fic!

Weirdly ironic I'm writing this now. Almost this exact prompt! I was watching videos from The X Factor and stuff where there'd be these men who came on with normal speaking voices and then they started to sing and they were SUPER deep voiced or even Sopranos!
So I'm writing this right now! Have a perfect song for Bilbo to sing too

This is turning out longer than I anticipated but I wanted to post a little bit tonight. I'll post more tomorrow when it's finished. Not beta'd by the way and I'm seriously just writing as I go which is why it's getting weirder the longer I write on it Shirefolk liked singing. It was done by everyone, male and female, old and young. They sang when they gardened, sewed, shopped, cooked, some even hummed while they slept. Someone was always singing in the Shire. That's just how life was. All of them except Bilbo, he hadn't tried to sing since he was in his tweens

As the last notes of the song faded Bilbo glanced at Ori and blushed deeply. His friend looked completely gob smacked. Glancing around he was surprised to see a few starting at him and even Kili and Fili seemed shocked

Lovely, looking forward to more! Poor Bilbo, it's okay sweetie. Oh, I do like Welsh as a substitute for Shire-speak, and I love that song.
I always feel that Dwarrows would have a lot of different types of vocal music - working songs, mining or smithing songs, travel songs, war chants, history chants (like the one Gimli sings in Moria), drinking songs, etc: it's a great idea to consider that they can hear 'echoes' underneath the words, just as they can in caves or stone. Beautiful start!

So glad you like it! :) I feel so bad for Bilbo, he still doesn't believe them I want to snuggle him up. And that song is one of my favorites ever. I thought Welsh was great for Shire Speak in my world lol.
You are spot on with how I think of the the Dwarrows and their music. Songs for all occasions. Ironically my Shire folk tend to stick with only happy music. So Bilbo's next song is going to be an old one that isn't sang often anymore because it's not so happy.
It's 4 am but I'll get the rest written up and posted tomorrow I hope :)

I really took liberties with the song in this one OP. I changed some lyrics. I hope it's still ok Bilbo sat staring into the fire as those around him ate and chatted. He’d been surprised when Thorin sat down a ways behind him. Usually the surely dwarf sat as far from everyone as possible

That was great! I really liked how Bilbo got to be part of a Durin sandwich at the end. So cute! But, could you please PLEASE tell me what song that is? I've been looking around and can't find it but would so love to hear it.
