INAUGURAL TOURNAMENT NOW OPEN: Rules and Sign-Ups

Jul 09, 2009 08:03

THANK YOU, SIGN-UPS ARE NOW CLOSED

hng_deathmatch is an knockout tournament in which participants battle anonymously with drabbles, icons, and other fanworks. Winners are determined by popular vote.

HIKARU NO GO DEATH MATCH: TOURNAMENT RULES

1. Failure to comply with the rules of the tournament will result in instant disqualification. The mod therefore recommends that you read them carefully.

2. The tournament is open to all Hikaru no Go fanworks, including:

- drabbles and fics
- icons
- art
- vids
- meta

I'm interested in seeing new and interesting forms of fanwork: Hikago bentos! Knitted sweaters for Touya! Heian-style poems for Sai! That said, I have no objection to a tournament filled with more traditional fanworks. Do what you must to win a death match. :D
The mod anticipates that the main form of fanwork seen in hng_deathmatch will be the humble drabble.

There are no restrictions as to length/quantity; you may submit as short or as long a fic as you like, or as many/few icons as you like.

2. Participants register for the tournament by leaving a comment at this post (will be screened) with:

a) their e-mail address
b) a pseudonym. This pseudonym will be used to identify their work for the duration of the tournament.

3. At no point will the adjudicator of this tournament release the true identities of the participants. Once you have been eliminated from the tournament you are free to repost your fanwork elsewhere and declare your identity; however, breaking anonymity while you are still in the tournament will result in instant disqualification.

4. Sign-ups will close when the mod determines that there are enough participants for a successful tournament. After sign-ups, participants will be e-mailed with:

a) the tournament draw*

b) the dates for each round of the tournament, including:
i) the due date for submissions.
ii) the voting period

c) the prompts for each round. There will be a choice of two prompts per round. The mod anticipates that each tournament will comprise four rounds, although this is dependent on the number of participants.

The above information will also be posted publically to the community.

4. Submissions should be e-mailed to hngdeathmatch@gmail.com by the due date for each round. As long as you remain in the tournament, you must produce a new fanwork for each round. Failure to submit by the due date shall be assumed to be a match default.

5. Each death match will include two fanworks posted pseudonymously in a single post to the comm, the first one labelled Black and the second labelled White. At the end of the post will be a poll that invites readers to vote for Black or White. The length of the voting period will depend on which round of the tournament we are in, but is not expected to exceed one week even in the finals.

6. Participants are permitted to vote for themselves. Participants are not permitted to ask their friends list to vote for them. If it comes to the attention of the mod that a participant has tried to influence voting, disqualification shall ensue.

(Note: It is okay to publically announce things in a vague, general sort of manner. For instance, it would be acceptable to post in your journal that you were in the finals of the tournament; however, you should not disclose information about the subject matter of your entry for the finals.)

8. The death match tournament shall continue until there is ONE WINNER. Tournament gold, silver and bronze winners will have their pseudonym recorded in our HALL OF FAME. Other lists of honor may be created in future.

Any questions should be left in the comments of this post.
