Just read first paragraph which is deeply promiisng but am rushing through on a guilty catch up of LJ at the moment so am hoping to read later today .

Oh thank you so much. That has to be one of the loveliest comments I have ever received, and it means even more coming from such a great writer as yourself. I am so glad you enjoyed it and that it brought back such happy memories. I studied the history of science as part of my degree and have always been fascinated by men like Kepler, Brahe, Bacon and Linnaeus - brainy is the new sexy :)
For some reason I am also much more interested in John's backstory than Sherlock's, I guess because he is so much more accessible and we see everything through his eyes.
Thanks again for taking the time to comment - twice! Hope you are well and doing ok. You have inspired me to kick my own butt (quite tricky to do) and finish off a few more things I have hanging about half finished, including a Hornblower fic.
