Well they give credit

Are you taking it as a complement or a violation of your rights as creator?

A compliment. hmpf September 11 2006, 23:46:38 UTC
I'm just slighly worried that with the extra exposure, rights owners (like the people owning the song; the Farscape owners are fairly nice about fanvids) might get the idea to sue...

The same girl had put my Scorius/John video up there too, and properly credited. You guy's video was up before mine was, and I thought someone had told you guys by now since they mentioned it over on Terra Firma.

I'd sent her a nice PM, siting a few articles I'd seen regarding the RIAA sending out C&Ds to some Youtube members.

She apologized sincerely for causing any trouble (which it didn't, I'm paranoid with because of the record companies), basically said she was just sharing the love and removed it.

What is proper credit?
I know that in the case of Star Trek for instance, there is a by now usual notice beneath most websites saying that Paramount/Viacom is the owner and any use is not for financial gain, just to show appreciation.

If anything like that has been included either into the YouTube entry or the actual video, I would hope RIAA and any rights owners (as Hmpf said, to the song) would turn a blind eye... But maybe I'm too positive now...

Sure, it's very recognisable as a song, but here I question people's rights to that which they made... Is it *their* song? or just *their interpretation* of a song?

In this case, she put up a music video that she enjoyed, and had said I had created the video. To me that's credit, but that does matter here she's not taking credit for the Scapesister's work either.

I don't actually think the taking or not taking of credit is that big a deal for RIAA or indeed the musical artist. The fact that "their song" can be heard without them being paid for it...
