I'm not sure how old you are, but I do know that when I was feeling disatisfied with the rest of my life, I was much more in tune with how much my love life sucked. I didn't do alot of dating in my 20s. Then I met someone in my later 20s and dated him for 18 mos before I started dating my now husband. Oh, and picky is a good thing. You deserve the person who best fits you and makes you happiest. Yes, that comes with risks.
My best friend who is still unmarried - she turned down 3 proposals (one with ring in hand) because the matches weren't in her best interest. Of all my friends, she was the one who wanted to get married and stay home with kids.
But, she also knew that as much as she wanted that, all that with the wrong person wouldn't make her happy. She is much happier now unmarried than she would have been married to any of the three people who proposed.
(that said - a casual dating relationship with not-perfect is fine too, hence the guy I dated before DH - as long as you recognize it for what it is.)
