Oh, how very, very beautiful. The frame of Constantine's rite feels so real and sincere (not to mention accurate), and the path the two characters take to come to friendship is both touching and compelling.

Both Darius and Constantine come alive here, and the story resonates on so many levels.

Thank you very much. It is hard to keep any kind of tension when you know both of the characters live (after all, we meet them in the show). It's like reading a historical novel where you know who dies. Still, there are many questions about the possible kind of relationship Darius and Constantine may have had. This story, I hope, gives one possibility.

I am glad you enjoyed the story.

This was just incredible. Two characters whom I'd not thought much about are brought to vivid life. A beautiful read and just an amazing use of language to create the tension between the two characters.

I couldn't have asked for more -- one happy girl, here. These are two of my favorite characters. I'm delighted to see Constantine fleshed out; his turning to work as a smith, with the symbolic undertones, is perfect. The form of the rite and the wax mask reminded me of the curses and rituals shown in Rome. I love how Constantine identifies so closely and loyally with Rome (again, he reminds me of Vorenus -- not that it's imitative, but that, as with Vorenus, he's convincingly a Roman type). Well built, well phrased, well paced. Brava.

I know who wrote this.

When I got my assignment, I had a little freak out. Then I went over your request, considered what I know of your likes and dislikes, and proceeded to be completely stuck for weeks. I knew from the start I wanted to do something with Constantine and Darius but every time I thought something up it was going to take too much research and time for me to finish by the deadline. I went back to source, watched the episodes, and then pulled out Bulfinch in a fit of desperation over coming up with an idea I could work with in the time allotted ( ... )

Oh, I know who wrote this story! Brilliantly evocative, rich with history, time, and place. The characters truly come alive and are at their best with each other and within themselves. Very well done!
