Oh my. Very nicely done. I've never seen an episode of "Torchwood," and had not a clue that Jack was immortal, but I've read enough about it that the head only living Jack reference was truly chilling.

The dialogue was quite well done. Thanks for a truly interesting read. And, yes, Mac and Methos are both very lucky guys.

"I've read enough about it that the head only living Jack reference was truly chilling."

Yes, I was wondering how many were going to clue in on that part. Does make you wonder how he came to be separated from the rest of his body, doesn't it? *g*

Glad you liked it!

I'm actually surprised more folks didn't notice that little detail.

btw, I asked Amand-r to add to my story my thanks that you did the beta, but she is very busy now, I'm sure and my heartfelt thanks to you can wait until you finish playing with it again and I post it on my own LJ which I won't do until I hear from you. Hmm, I should probably send this in a private e-mail, but it won't hurt to have my thanks to you posted in this group.

My apologies for not getting back to your story. Christmas madness has ensued and my life just got out of hand, I'm afraid. After all the children leave, toward the end of this week, I'll have some quiet time. In the meantime, if you want to go ahead and post, I'll certainly understand.

Okay, I'd never watched Torchwood, but I read several crossovers with it this month, and I think I have the barebones of it. I don't know a lot about Jack at all, but I liked how vulnerable he was in this story, kind of desperate, because of the whole Immortal thing.

Also, Duncan flipping out ninja-style and breaking into the facility was excellent. And the memory wiping was very funny. If Duncan knew what was good for him, he'd flush those pills down the toilet ASAP. Methos seems a little too interested in them.

Torchwood is interesting because Jack is interesting, IMO. He's gorgeous, accidentally, unexpectedly immortal so he has all that angst potential, besides being ready to fuck anything that walks by. The writing hasn't lived up to the potential yet, but I'm hopin'.....

Thanks again for your help with this!

Oh poor Jack! *cuddles him* I loved this story, although I'm a little confused as to the timelines, but it was a great concept, well written. :)

Well, unovis_lj had something far more esoteric in mind, I think, when we discussed the idea, but essentially, it's the same timeline, it's just that with the Retcon dose, Jack has no memory of the present day encounter. However, Jack will (sometime in the future) travel back in time and encounter Methos back in London in 1944. He will also target the Old Pelican Pub because he will be curious as to why he's carrying around that place and date on an old pub napkin...

Glad you liked the story!

Very nicely written.
Jack and his insecurities about his immortality. I take it this was set before he meets up with the Doctor - before he and the Doc have their little flirty chat about living forever?
I also adored that Mac could infiltrate Torchwood, and that he would to rescue the old guy. The relationships, the tangled emotions - just excellent.
Thank you!

There seems to be a reference to Jack facing Abaddon already, and 21st century Torchwood Jack has no means of voluntary time travel, so it must be taking place at some point beyond the end of season 1-- and also after Jack was reunited with the Doctor, since that happened so soon after his revival. Jack will have regained some way of traveling in time by the time this story is set and now he has a reason to return to London in 1944.

Very very nice. I love Jack feeling the outsider, still, and still having trouble dealing with his immortality. I like the conversation about the Game. I like his recognition of age in Methos, and their mutual consideration of Duncan. These three together are catnip.

Okay - I remember (vaguely) the Doctor fixed his bracelet? But I can't remember if the Doctor gave it back to Jack? So this is set between S1 and S2 of Torchwood?

I was a great read Haa - all the characters were so good. Having seen Jack in the last series of DW helped me to understand the Jack from S1 a bit more and just makes me want to hug him even harder. *g* I'm looking forward to the new season.

Thanks!

Thanks to both of you! Unovis helped with the original concept, and the precise details of exactly when and under what circumstances Jack can time travel are, in my mind at least, still murky since even things in the present can be altered, leaving all kinds of "canon" assumptions open to other possible interpretations.

Anyway, I didn't really dink with the timeline since Jack got a dose of Retcon, so at some future point, he will travel back in time to meet Methos at the Old Pelican Pub.

A story for another day.... *g*
