The Future of HL_Stills?

Hello community,

Your mods are going to take a one week hiatus in order to solicit your input on where you'd like to see this community go.

Firstly, the number of artists entering has dropped quite dramatically of late. We appreciate that we all have busy lives which cut into fannish time, but is it more than that? Are you -- the members --

I'm definitely interested in seeing the community remain active as I would probably lack the motivation to make HL icons without it. Unfortunately I don't have any bright ideas for encouraging new icon makers other than advertising more widely..

I think one of the problems for HL icons is the lack of a central place for screencaps. Even if people want to make HL icons it's just not that easy to find caps and these days we're really used to having beautiful HD caps almost instantly. It's just easier to make icons of a series where you can find caps, than for one where you have to search really hard.

Time is always the only reason I don't participate. I always try to if I can. :) This comm makes me really happy, and I appreciate you guys doing it.

That said, I have wondered once or twice if more latitude in choosing screencaps might not be a good idea? Not for every challenge, but it might be fun now and then if we could choose our own images to meet a theme?

Please don't stop!! I really love this community. Among all the still comms I participate, I find that you're the one which is the more inventive and fun when it comes to challenges. I would miss you greatly, and honestly Iike Kathyh I would loose the motivation to do Highlander icons if it weren't for the comm. I agree too with her when it comes to find caps. I completely rely on you for that, to the point that when you don't propose some, I have to dig on the old posts to find some for the new challenge

Please keep going! My main reason for not entering more is the timing. Most stills comms run from Sunday-Sunday (even two week ones) and end at EST, so the odd timing on this one throws me off.

I also have a problem with inspiration. If the caps provided don't inspire me I won't be able to make icons with them. Expanding the cap choices might help a bit or occasionally letting us choose some ourselves. Of course then the problem becomes, there is no where to get decent HL caps. I'm so used to fandoms that have the entire series capped and and free for use.

Have you become a member of icontest_needs icontest_promo and mod_stillness ? Pimping the comm there could help. Also, asking other stillness/20in20 comms to become affiliates and help you promote the comm could help. Check the profile pages of the comms I listed above for all of the current stills/20in20 comms.

Okay, here are a couple of ideas to use or discard (no hurt feelings either way).

I've seen this on another fandom icon community. Wet character. I had to think, but I know there are a few scenes with a wet Duncan: when he got connor out of the river in Gathering, when he got caught in the fountain disabling Methos' bomb in Rev, he went into the river after killing Caspian, but don't think we saw him wet them. In Deliverance in the magic spring.

With Methos under the bridge after he escaped from Kalas, sitting in the park in the rain in Timeless.

Or we could do Sword pictures: your favorite immortal holding his/her sword.

Or we could do a blending of one of the actors/actresses using their Highlander character and any character from their non-Highlander work. Such as Amanda and Liz from a non-highlander role. Methos and Peter from a non-highlander role. Duncan and Adrian from a non-Highlander role. But you have to blend both characters into one icon.
